Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe was one of the freedom fighter in the history Nigerian nationalism. He was the first president of Nigeria, from October 1 1963 to 16 January 1966. Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe served as the second and last Governor-General from 1960 to 1963. He attended Hope Waddell Training Institute, Calabar, and Methodist Boys High School Lagos before graduating from Howard University, Washington DC and Lincoln University, Pennsylvania.
Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe was a great man through his contributions to national development in Nigeria today, he was the man the fought for Nigeria to get better today. He was representing the Eastern part of Nigeria before Nigeria gained her independent.
He is known as Zik the promoter of African nationalist agenda. He worked as an editor for African Morning Post. He became the first Nigerian to be named to the privy council of the United stated.
Following the almagametion of Nigeria as a republic, Dr Nnamdi battled steadily for a free Nigeria. His exceptional great work has prompted a few spots being named after him.
Nigeria today has named so many things after his dead, the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Air Port Abuja, the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Enugu, the Nnamdi Azikiwe College in Awka, Anambra State, Nnamdi Azikiwe Press Center, Dodan Sleeping enclosure, Obalende, Ikoyi, Lagos and Azikiwe Road in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. His goodwill likewise lives on as long as Nigeria's ₦500 note exists – his picture is on it.
Currently Nigeria note is carrying his picture as a symbol respect towards his contribution.
