Lalbagh Fort stands in front of the river Buriganga in the south-west of Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is an incomplete 17th century Mughal fort complex. Its construction was started in 1678 AD by the Mughal Subahdar Muhammad Azam Shah, son of Emperor Aurangzeb.

History
Muhammad Azam, the Mughal prince, the third son of Aurangzeb, started work on the fort in Bengal in 1678 during his viceroyalty. He stayed in Bengal for 15 months. Later, when he was asked by his father Aurangzeb to leave Dhaka, the construction work of the fort remained incomplete.
Later Shaista Khan was the new subahdar of Dhaka but he did not complete the work of the fort. In 184, Shaista Khan's daughter Iran Barkhat Pari Bibi died there. After his death, he began to feel the fort was unlucky. For that reason, one of the three main parts of Lalbagh fort is the tomb of fairy Bibi.

It lost its popularity after Shaista Khan left Dhaka. The main reason was to shift the capital from Dhaka to Murshidabad. The fort was abandoned after the end of the royal Mughal period. In 1844, the area got the name Lalbagh instead of Aurangabad and the fort became Lalbagh Fort.
Structures
The fort has long been considered a combination of the three buildings, the mosque, the tomb of Bibi Pari and the Diwan-i-Am, with two entrances and a part of the partially damaged fort wall. Other excavations carried out by the Bangladesh Department of Archeology have revealed the existence of other sites.
There is a huge tower in the south-west corner of the south fort wall. To the north of the south fort wall was a beautiful roof-garden with utility building, stable, administrative block and fountain and reservoir system in its western part. The residential area was located east of the west fort wall, mainly southwest of the mosque.
There were five towers at regular intervals on the south wall of the fort wall, two storeys high, and two towers on the west wall; The largest is near the main south gate. The forts had a tunnel.

The central area of the fort is occupied by three buildings - the Diwan-i-Am and before it the Hammam, in the west the mosque and the tomb of the fairy Bibi in a line between the two, but not equal. Distance A water channel with fountains at regular intervals connects three buildings from east to west and from north to south.

Dhaka's Lalbagh Fort can be reached by rickshaw, CNG, or taxi from the front of Gulistan, Shahbagh or Curzon Hall.

Lalbagh Fort Ticket price for local tourist is 20Tk per person.
Lalbagh Fort Ticket Price for the tourist of SAARC Countries is 100TK per person.
The ticket price for other tourist is 200TK per person.

Best Time to visit Lalbagh Fort
As Lalbagh Fort has variety of opening times based on season. During summer the fort is open from 10 Am to 6 PM. On every Mondays, Lalbagh fort opens at 2.30 PM and closes at 6PM. The best time to visit lalbagh fort is in the afternoon after 3PM to 6PM. At that time you will get a beautiful look of the fort.
However, never plan to visit the fort on Sunday because the fort is close on that day.
