Carrom board is a very popular sport among domestic games or indoor games. This game is prevalent in all levels of town and village. As a result, most of the boys and girls in our country are skilled in the game of carom. The use of this game is not limited to boys and girls only. The elderly and the elderly do not have a pair of carom games. There is no better game at such a low cost. Moreover, as space or playing area is less required, many people play carom at home with their wives, sons and daughters.
★History
The game of carrom was first discovered in South Asia.There is a lot of controversy about this.According to some, the game was first discovered in Sri Lanka.According to many, the Indians spread the game to Sri Lanka.Many say again in Portugal for this game.According to most people, this game was introduced by the Indian Maharajas.
After the discovery, different countries used to organize this game according to their own rules.
In 1890, the educator Henry Haskell changed the rules of the game in America.The International Carrom Federation was formed in 1988 in Chennai, India.Since then, various national and international level carrom Board tournaments have been organized.The first carrom game competition was officially launched in the public, 1993.Bangladesh Keram Committee was formed in 1990.

Carrom game is held between two or four people. A game between two is called a 'singles game' and a game between fours is called a 'double game'. And in double play each pair will stand face to face.
★Rules for playing carrom.
(1) ‘Surface’ of Carrom Board
The surface of the carom board will be made of plywood or any other wood. This plywood should be flat and very smooth and at least 8 mm thick. The length of a square and a rectangle will be a minimum of 83.50 cm and a maximum of 64 cm. The surface is so smooth that if a striker weighing 15 grams hits the wooden frame in the opposite direction too hard, the striker will hit the wooden frame in the opposite direction too hard.
(2) The frame of the carom board shall be fastened with rosewood or any other hard wood around the surface of the board. This wood will be ‘synced’ i.e. it will not crack or bend in cold or heat. The wooden frame shall not be less than 6.35 cm or more than 6.60 cm wide and its four corners should be curved. The height of the frame from the top of the board should be at least 1.90 cm and 2.54 cm. The board also needs to have a small square frame attached below it to keep the surface flat.
(3)Pockets: The board will also have 4 round 'pockets' at the four corners. The diameter of each pocket will be 4.45 cm. The diameter of the pocket is 0.15 cm. The diameter of the pocket can be enlarged to 0.15 cm. This pocket should also be made by cutting the prism attached to the frame at the four corners of the board.
(4)The Board's Base Line: A. Two straight lines of 48 cm long black color will be drawn on the top of the board parallel to the frame on each side of the board. The bottom of these two lines will be 0.50 cm to 0.75 cm wide and 10.15 cm from the frame. The distance between the bottom of the base line and the other narrow line will be 3.18 cm.
B. A circle will be drawn on each end of the 'base line'. The diameter of this circle will be 3.18 cm. The area with a diameter of 2.54 cm in this circle will be red. These circles are called 'base circles'. This circle should be drawn in such a way that it touches both ends of the base line. Moreover, the distance between the 'Base Circle' on one side and the 'Base Circle' on the other side will be 1.26 cm.
(5) Arrow drawn at the angle of the board:
Four arrows of black color 0.15 cm wide should be drawn along the middle of the pocket at each corner of the carom board. This arrow will pass through the space between the two base circles on either side and will be 5.00 cm away from the pocket. The length of each arrow shall not exceed 26.60 cm. At the back of the arrow may be a beautiful semicircle with a diameter of 6.35 cm.
(6) Center Circle: At the center point of the surface of the board there will be a circle with a black line of 3.17 cm diameter. This circle should be covered with red. This is called 'center circle'.
(7) Outer circle:
(A) The board will also have another circle 18.00 cm in diameter from the center point. This is called 'Outer Circle'. These outer circles can be illustrated by different designs.
(B)Carrom Pieces
The carom playing ball will be made of good quality wood and round. The diameter of the stalk should not be more than 3.17 cm or less than 3.02 cm and should be between 0.80 cm to 0.90 cm thick. The edges of the dice will be round and smooth. Each piece will not weigh less than 5.00 grams or above 5.50 grams.
There will be 9 white, 9 black and 1 red carom cards called red. Each dice will have the same shape and weight. If you hit the dice on the board with the striker, the dice should move at a sublime speed.
(C) Striker
The carom striker will be round and smooth and will be 4.13 cm in diameter and weigh no more than 15 grams. Strikers can be made with any substance other than metal. Lovely design cut striker can also be used but it has to be made as described above.
(D) Board holding table or stand
The table or stand on which the board is to be played will be less than 63.00 cm in height and not more than 60 cm in height. After placing the board on the stand there will be no side or bend and no movement on the board either. The board must be fixed to the stand.
(E) Tools or chairs
The height of the tool or chair on which the player will play carom will be less than 40.00 cm and not more than 0 cm. However, chairs without handles must be used.
(F) Powder
High quality powder should be used for playing carom so that the surface of the board is smooth and dry. When using powder from the container, it should be spread evenly all over the board.
(G) Net
A net should be placed under each pocket on the carom board so that if the lot falls in the pocket, it can be deposited in the net. You have to put a big net that has space for 10 pieces.
(H) Light
The power of the bulb can be 60 or 100 watts for convenient lighting on the carom board. However, arrangements have to be made so that the light does not catch the eye of the player in any way.
