Astronomers have taken the most detailed photograph of a black hole ever taken.

Astronomers managed to photograph a black hole for the first time two years ago. The Breakthrough Prize—known as the Oscars of science—was given to the team behind the Event Horizon Telescope project, and the image was purchased as an inkjet print by the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

The same astronomers have now taken the first accurate photograph of a black hole, one of the universe's most mysterious features that was once considered to be unobservable.

The new picture portrays the black hole's vortex and the magnetic field lines that run along its inner edge, showing how the magnetic field fuels the black hole's insatiable appetite while also fueling the intergalactic fireworks display that surrounds it.

Astronomers claim this will help them understand how black holes can fire energetic jets from their cores that reach "far beyond the galaxy."

Astronomers hope to learn why a black hole consumes matter (a celestial object) in its orbit, as well as how it sends out huge jet particles into space. Astronomers can see into the black hole's outside area, where matter is flown in and ejected out, thanks to the polarized picture.
