The public is invited to participate in the many visible activities of NASA in celebrating the International Observe the Moon Night on Saturday, October 16. The celebration provides opportunities for learning about the science of the moon and exploring, observing celestial beings, and respecting personal interactions with the Moon.

The festival week started with the "Global Moon Party" on October 9, continued with social media activities, and ended with International Observe the Moon Night on October 16. Public participation will be open until October 23.

The Moon will be a growing caterpillar on October 16, providing excellent opportunities for a closer look at the terminal - the line between night and day.

In celebration of the International Observe the Moon Night (October 16, 2021), NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter made this music video featuring the song "A Million Dreams," performed by musician P! NK and the Ndlovu Youth Choir of South Africa. On this day, we see all the positive aspects of observing the Moon, from science to inspiration.

  • Try one of our highlighted activities, including Bingo, artwork, and impact crater modeling.

  • Watch the NASA TV Broadcast on Saturday, On October 16 from 7:30 pm-8:30 pm EDT.

The Moon is a stepping stone to learning more about our solar system, the galaxy, and the atmosphere. This year’s event coincides with the launch of Lucy’s goal of exploring asteroid asteroids and helping us better understand the origins of our solar system.

NASA has been following the moon for decades. Later this year, a Rock Launch System (SLS) rocket will be launched - the first in a series of machines that will give the first woman and first person of the month a Moon in the coming years through the Artemis program.
