No need to describe the word again and again. It has become a global health crisis. According to the latest updates up to 7 October 2020, there are,
35,659,007 confirmed cases of COVID-19
1,044,269 deaths globally.
You can see all the statistics from WHO COVID19 UPDATES
Now, this has been spread in almost all the continents except in Antarctica.
I suddenly wanted to convey this message, with the current situation in Sri Lanka. Most probably, people outside Sri Lanka might have heard about it. After 2 months without patients, another cluster was found in the country as the second wave.
We were among the few countries that successfully defeated it. So, hats off to the government, health sectors, three forces, and all the other administrative officers. They really did an amazing job. We were able to open the schools and universities and start the usual routine again with proper research in the country.
But unfortunately, we have screwed up a little bit. We still don’t know the source of the new cluster. But I know one thing for sure. We forgot the usual health guidelines suggested by the WHO. But no offense to anyone. Because we thought that the threat has been gone, including me.
So, that’s what I want to highlight. This is different than other viruses. The symptoms can be varying from one to another. Even the PCR test couldn’t identify the virus. That’s why we should continuously follow the instructions.
How it can be infected?
Current investigations show that direct or indirect contact with an infected person can spread the virus. These are released from the mouth or nose when an infected person coughs, sneezes speaks or sings, for example. People who are within 1 meter have a high possibility of catching it. Source
What are the symptoms of COVID 19?
According to WHO the symptoms can be shown even 14 days after exposure to a patient.
• Fever
• Dry cough
• Tiredness
• Breathing problems
So, if you have these, it’s better to meet a doctor and get the necessary precautions. Sometimes you might putting all your loved ones in danger.
What we can do to protect?
Most of the countries follow various strategies to defeat the threat. Try to find a cure, testing and treating patients, Enhancing the medical facilities, tracing the patients and their behaviors, Travel limitations, quarantining citizens, prohibiting large gatherings and functions, etc. But as citizens,
• Clean your hands often
• Cough or sneeze in your bent elbow - not your hands!
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
• Limit social gatherings and time spent in crowded places
• Avoid close contact with someone who is sick
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
Protective measures
Change of Life style
Like Sri Lanka, most of the countries in the world have people with low income and middle income. They don’t have a big saving or mostly no savings. So, with lockdowns, limitations, losing jobs people suffer more. Government, private sector, well-wishers try their best to be supportive. And that programs should be more widened and organized and reach every corner of the country and get more support from the higher income community.
And don’t forget about to care about your neighbor, these days caring and sharing is a very noble thing. I saw a lot of posts regarding donations, more of those will motivate the others too.
Trend of gardening
With COVID 19 one good thing has happened. It's the necessity of producing our own things. It's from the country-wise to a small group called family. Most of the countries thinking of strengthening their local industries and vegetations as much as possible. Because importing is restricted. And people are thinking to grow vegetables and make food at home. We got free time as well. So, not only in this period this has to be continued throughout. Given the many benefits of productive gardening, this interest in increased self-sufficiency was an intelligent response to the pandemic situation.
I'll come with another post about my vegetation at home.
So, that's it. Hope you will take this matter seriously and stay safe.
And pray for the whole world to free from this soon and god bless for the people wh fight against it.
Thank you
Best Regards!
