Looking back on the past year, we tried to think about the positive things that had happened. What we thought was that people are becoming more and more aware of how we keep our pets in captivity and how we take care of our birds in the wild. Over the years, a great deal of protection has been done, and it is encouraging to see the number of successes being achieved now.
I always remember the plight of the Speix Macaw and how to know only one individual in the wild in Brazil, but despite many efforts made years ago, this particular bird disappeared, leading to the extinction of Speix in the wild.
However, due to the unremitting efforts of the conservation project, although the number of Spikes macaws that currently exist has been kept in captivity, the number has increased. When the number reaches about 150, serious measures will be taken to release them to their natural habitat. in Brazil.
One of the biggest achievements of this year and recently is that CITES issued a ban to stop the commercial trade of African Grey Parrots. However, these birds still need to be protected, and the World Parrot Trust has been working hard to raise funds through their "Become Their Hero" project, click here.
Some other successes: Nature conservationist Dr. Sam Williams spent many years at the Echo Project in Central America and, through his determination and hard work, brought the plight of the Central American Amazon to the fore. In Bolivia, with the support of the Loro Parque Fundación, the Armonía Association has done much to increase the number of blue-throated macaws. In the Far East, the efforts of the Indonesian Parrot Project (IPP) are fighting the cause of many white cockatoos. I only mentioned a few here, but we must not forget that many other organizations in the world are working hard to keep our wildlife intact. All things considered, I think the efforts of all these organizations are excellent and it is encouraging to see the increase in the number of these wild birds.
