Hello steemians. Today, I will be talking about one of my favourite hair oils, Afrokink.
In the Northwest region of Cameroon where I come from, we are required to shave our hair off throughout secondary school. Thus, after I graduated from high school in June 2019, my hair was closely shaven like that of a soldier in service💔. The next battle I had to tackle was growing my hair out.
Due to my genetics and race, I'm a proud owner of kinky black African hair🥰. It comes with it's advantages as well as it's disadvantages. What I think is the greatest advantage of having kinky hair is it's versatility;. But its major disadvantage is that due to its kinky nature, naturally produced oil (sebum) is unable to reach the full hair length. So the longer our hair strands are, the less moisturised they will be which leads to a lot of breakage and no length retention😭.
But I have always dreamt of long healthy locks brushing against my midback, and this desire is what pushed me to peruse the internet in search of a solution to this problem. As it turns out, in order for our kinky hair to be healthy and grow properly without breaking off, we have to supply the nutrients and oils to the hair ourselves. It has been a difficult journey but 23 months later, I have gained some knowledge which has helped me in this natural hair journey🤍.
From my research, our hair loves many different types of oils which included Castor oil, coconut oil, argan oil, olive oil, Shea butter, vitamin E oil, essential oils etc. It also loves so many ingredients found in our kitchen like ginger, garlic, onion, just to name a few. I also learned that you should use products based on what you feel your hair needs. It is this knowledge that led to me being a natural hair product junkie as I had to keep trying products to find which was right for my hair.
When I first heard of the oil Afrokink, I researched all its ingredients before attempting to use it on my hair. It is made up of Castor oil, coconut oil, olive oil, Shea butter and vitamin E, all natural ingredients which have been proven to boost hair growth. Their individual benefits for hair have been proven effective by several emperimenters. So you can imagine what the combined effect can do👍. And to top it off, it was inexpensive and also locally made - I happen to be a fan of locally naturally made products. It also gives me a tingling sensation when applied on the scalp, which I have grown fond of😅.
So far, I have been using Afrokink for 5 months and the results have been encouraging. My hair has gotten thicker and longer. With continuous use, I hope to see greater improvement in my hair as I move one step closer to my hair goals.
