Business of the day...
What is writing?
Just gonna do a little thread on it for writers who are just starting on my CL, those who have writing as interest and don't know how to go about it, and anyone who cares to learn. ✨
Who is a writer?
🚀 If you put words on paper constantly, you're a writer.
🚀 If you write 2 pages or more in your diary, you're a writer.
🚀 If you love providing captions for posts, you're a writer.
🚀 If you always have one or two to write on a particular subject, you're a writer.
🚀 You like writing short stories, poems, etc, you're a writer.
Mind you, not everyone loves writing. Not everyone has the strength to write.
To them, it is ‘stressful’. So if you find yourself loving the art, congrats to you. 👏
A writer is a person who uses written words in different writing styles and techniques to communicate ideas.
It's the same thing as a photographer who uses pictures to communicate. As well as actors, who act in movies to pass
information.
Now we have poets, article writers, bloggers, caption writers, and so many more.
There is this fallacy about writers I hear a lot and feel like smacking the person who said it.
“Writers waste their time”
“Writers don't do any hard work”
“Writing is the simplest job to do. Just sit down and write.”
The worst of it all is, “Imagine if they call people that have jobs, writers will come out”.
I go start to dey deck person anyhow😤
Guess what?
You don't have to get a degree or masters in English Language or literature or any degree at all to be a writer.
I don't even like studying English. I just dey get B and C anyhow for secondary school. And here I am.
I write in English and sometimes in pidgin or Igbo. As far as I'm communicating with you, I'm good.
Write words in a way the person next to you will understand. That's what makes you a writer.
Now, you know who a writer is.
Will talk about good and bad writing next time...🚀🐑
