AFRICAN TALE: THE SINGING BONE

Once upon a time, in the village of Odoma. There lived a wealthy king who had two twin sons, named Ogili and Udara.

One day, when the king became too old and weak, he knew that he wouldn't live too long. So in order for his twin sons not to fight for the throne of the kingdom, he then decided to make a wise decision.

The king called Ogili and Udara to his room and told them about his decision.

He told the two of them to go to the forest in search of a beautiful flower, saying that the winner would be the next king.

This made Ogili and Udara so happy that they immediately set off on the journey to search for the flower.

While the two brothers searched and searched for hours and days, they even felt tired but so encouraged by the rewards. They continue searching in the forest.
Udara suddenly found the flower as he happily plucked it.
Brother ogili, I've just found the flower."
Udara said.

But before Udara could know what was going on, Ogili immediately hit him with a stick on his head out of jealousy and took his flower away.

Udara died in the forest.

So Ogili brought the flower and presented it to the king, saying that he had found it.

Where is your twin brother, but I thought the two of you went together?, why is he not back with you?
The king worriedly asked.

Daddy, maybe he might still be there looking for his own.
Ogili lied.

The king was patiently waiting for his son.

After three days, a hunter named Udoka, who went to the forest to check his traps, got very shocked to step on a singing bone.
When he stepped on the bone, it started singing.

Hunter man, hunter man, don't touch my bone. My brother killed me in the bush and took my flowers away."
The bone sang.

So Udoka became very surprised and decided to take the bone to the king.

When the bone sang again in front of the king and udara, the king felt confused as tears rolled down his eyes.

The king angrily said that Ogili would be punished severely.
Ogili, so you killed your own brother and lied to me all this while.
For this grave sin you committed, the reward for it is nothing but death. The village youth took Ogili to their field and stoned him to death.

Both him and the brother didn't take
the throne from their father.
