Hello dear steemians! My name is Ade and I bear @adeade on this platform. I am here to participate in this discussion about the domestic chore, most times called the house chores. Before I delve fully into answering the few basic questions generated around the topic of discuss, I will quick describe the meaning of few keywords as I used then in this piece:

  • Chores: these are tasks which are some times difficult, unpleasant or routine.

  • Task: a piece of work assigned to someone or done as part of one's duty.

  • Domestics: these are activities relating to homes.

  • Core: the major part or aspect of something.

  • Affluent: rich or wealthy.

Below are the questions and my response to them:

👉What does House Chores mean and what is your perception about it (do you enjoy it or not, tell us)?

House Chores are domestic tasks regularly done at home. This tasks include: washing, cleaning, ironing, etc. This is why house chores are sometimes referred to as domestic chores. House chores is not limited to a particular member of the family, it usually involves every member. However, mothers and children are usually responsible for the domestic tasks.

My perception on house chores is that it is domestic and it creates a sense of responsibility especially for children. Assigning domestic duty to children teaches them how to be responsible in life.

👉What is included in the house chores that is done in your house?

In my location in the south western part of Nigeria, house chores such as washing, cleaning, cooking etc are mostly assigned to the children. As a child grows, parents ( usually the mother) will assign duties they think the child can handle. This is not without the supervision of the parent. One of the exceptions to this are affluent families with housemaids ( they are locally referred to as house girls) where most of these chores are the responsibilities of the maid.

👉Which of them do you enjoy doing and how do you do them?

While growing up, as the number 3 of 4 children, I was delegated the duty of washing the dishes and mopping the living room. I also liked to stay with my late mom in the kitchen whenever she cooked. This is why I can says I am a very good cook. The cooking part ( though not my assigned chore) is the one I enjoyed most.

I think I enjoyed the two core chores assigned to me. Reason being that I love to keep things neatly intact anytime any day. Seeing dirty dishes is not something I like. Therefore, I always ensured that all the dishes were washed and we'll arranged. I also feel cooler whenever my environment is kept clean. This was the spirit that usually ignited me to mopping the floor all the time.

👉Why is house chores so important to you and the family?

The house chores are so important to me as it keeps the family running smoothly. In a family, all members should be responsible for one thing or the other. While parents work tirelessly to make money for the family, children are meant to consign themselves with the chores.

👉Your advice to kids about house chores

My advice to kids is that taking part in house chores is to their advantages for the following reasons:

  • it develops the spirit of responsibility in you.

  • It makes you a contributor to the growth of the family.

  • It grows the spirit of timely response to one's duty.

  • It makes you dependable -for example, you are being depended on to do the cooking.

  • It builds your confidence. No one needs to teach you cleanliness, how to cook, etc, anywhere you find yourself later in life: you already know how to do them.

Note that house chores usually build you and prepare you for the future. Do not see house chores as a stress, but a press to growth.

Good morning.

There is no doubt that for children to participate in household chores allows them to have responsibility from an early age, the ideal is to assign them simple tasks and as they grow up that are more relevant because the goal is to provide them with tools for life in society.

You summarized it all. Thank you for your comment.

Your post reminds me of so many things. I will try to take part in this constest

Thank you so much

Sorry for the loss of your mom. Childre always like doing other people's job. When you assign a chores to a child, he prefers doing others chores, leaving their own and maybe capitalize it as too much or tedious.

It was good you learnt something from your mom before her demise. And now,you can do almost all the chores. Success!

Thanks @ruthjoe. I am always grateful for the things I learnt from my parents while growing up. Your point is very correct. My post was a reflection on adolescent years with my parents. But your assertion took me a little bit backward when I would complain so much about a particular task and would want to switch tasks with my siblings. You really have firsthand Knowledge of the discussion.
