Children are the future of our living and I'd say life won't be complete without them. Every adult was once a child. Because of the precious place they occupy in our ecosystem, much care and deliberate love should be shown them . So today I want to make a useful contribution to our kids. I'll be talking on health snacks for kids.
Snacks we know are Integral parts of our kids lives. I've never seen any child do without snacks. Snacking is a part of their growing up. Depriving a child of snacks is asking for trouble and tantrums. So most times in order to avoid all the drama, we just satisfy their cravings. Kids also we know get hungry in-between meals, hence snacking may be difficult to avoid. Having all this in mind, in as much as we want to satisfy our kids, we must know that there are some snacks that may not be too healthy for a child's consumption.
Many of the packaged snacks for kids may be unhealthy because they are usually made from plenty refined flour, added sugars and ingredients that are not natural. We can see snack time as an avenue to add extra nutrients to our children's diet. We can fill them up with whole foods that are healthy and will provide nutrition and energy rather than highly processed snacks. Let's take a look at some health snacks that we can feed our children.
. Yoghurt
. Popcorn
. Boiled eggs
. fruits
. potato chips
. Whole grain crackers
Let's discuss some of these briefly
Youghurt
It Contains protein and calcium hence it's a good snack for children. Calcium is a very important nutrient that helps in bone development in children. Some yoghurt contains live culture which is good for the digestive system. In choosing yoghurt, don't chose the one with high sugar content but go for plain yoghurt or full fat yoghurt, then you can sweeten it with honey is you want to for kids above 12months.
Pop corn
Popcorn is a nutritious whole grain even though many see it as junk food.
Pls do not use plenty toppings, a little butter and sugar is ok. Pls ensure to give it to children who can handle eating it to avoid choking.
Boiled eggs
Eggs are good sources of protein, vitamins and minerals. They are very nutritious hence are good snacks for children.
Eggs are highly nutritious and an excellent snack for kids. They contain nutirents like
Choline and carotenoids which are good for brain and eye development respectively.
Fruits
Fruits are everywhere around us and are naturally healthy and full of vitamins. We have varieties of fruits which includes banana, mango, pawpaw, orange, Cucumber, apple, watermelon etc. Fruits are nutritious and many children love it. A good fruit snacks is surely a healthy way to start with our kids.
The other snacks listed are also healthy and contain nutirents which are good for the child's development. So when next it's time for snacks, don't just give your child anything available, have their health as a priority on your list and offer them healthy snacks. The above mentioned are just few but they are not limited to these. The whole point we need to understand is to settle for healthy snacks for our kids since they can't but snack.
