DESCRIBE AN ANT

Ants are common insects that can be found in most parts of the world. They possess bodies with three sections which include a head, an abdomen and a thorax. All ants have six legs and a bent antennae, and these antennae and legs are long compared to their bodies.

They can be black, brown or reddish and the range in size from 1/16 of an inch to 1/2 inch. Meanwhile, most ant species can pose to be no threat to humans, and they can be quite annoying when seen in the home.

WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM THE LIFESTYLE OF AN ANT?

Ant are common household pests because they prefer building their nests near our food and water sources and we humans tend to unconsciously provide plenty of food for the ants. They prefer to build their nests near sources of food and water just to protect themselves against predators and the elements.

The most outstanding trait of ant behavior is the ability to socialize. And ants don't act individually rather they behave according to the colony in roles dictated by the caste such as worker or soldier which they are born into. The major social unit is the colony which forms a nest.

HAVE YOU SEEN ONE BEFORE? IF YES, WHERE?

Ant is mostly likely to be everywhere, so YES I have seen an Ant before and in many places I have been to. I have seen ants reside in houses there, they try to create holes in one corner of the house. I have also seen ant in the farm, trees, office even schools. They are literally everywhere.

ARE THEY IMPORTANT TO MAN, WHAT SIGNIFICANT ROLE DO THEY PLAY IN HUMANS LIFE?

As Ants are, they have their own role they play and equally have their importance to man. Below are the facts;

Just like earthworms, ant helps in creating healthy top soil.

Ants are decomposers that feed on organic waste, insects or other dead animals.

They help keep the environment clean.

They are among the leading predators category that helps to keep pest population low.

Ant uses it's tunnel to enhance water infiltration and circulate air inside the ground which is beneficial to both the plant roots and soil.

IF THEY ARE DANGEROUS TO MAN TELL US THEIR BAD EFFECT

Ants are usually not dangerous therefore their bites can cause pain and discomfort. But if it happens to be that the ant bite is not well taken care of, the skin might lead to irritation or even become infected. These insects called ant use their mandibles and mouth to pinch the skin if whosoever that try to threaten them.

CONCLUSION

Ants are humanly friendly but trying to threaten them might result to pinching of the skin or bites, depending on the species of ant it is. Just like carpenter ants, they can destroy wooden structures with their tunnels. And termites causes dangerous structural home damage.

I invite @hannybanny, @mile16 and @chigraze to join the contest.
