Contest entry: poverty,it's implications and alleviation

Poverty has been a major cause of loud outcry in the world and it has ended many lives and is about to end many lives if nothing is done about it.. it can be considered to be the worst and most deadly disease that kills it victims slowly and painfully if a solution is not found.

I am opportuned to come across a contest in the steem kids and parents community, demanding that we talk about POVERTY and I feel honored to make an entry for this contest.

NB: EVERYTHING WRITTEN HERE IS BASED ON MY PERSPECTIVE

WHAT IS POVERTY

The definition of things is dependent on how the person defining the particular thing sees it.

However, poverty can be defined as a state in life in which an individual, community, state or country lacks the physical, financial as well as mental resources or capacity needed for a minimal living.

LIST AND EXPLAIN FIVE CAUSES OF POVERTY

There are a lot of things that causes poverty in the world, ranging from illitracy to ignorance.

The five main causes of poverty are as follows:

1. War: war can lead to many disastrous things. War can lead o poverty, famine, death e.t.c

When there is war, the people tend to have only one goal in their mind, and that goal is to fight and conquer their enemies and as such, they will not be able to fight the other enemy which is poverty.. War ruins many things that could help am individual escape poverty and as such, if there is War, there is bound to be an increasing rate of poverty.

1. Illitracy: As we all know, illitracy is lack of knowledge. When a person lacks knowledge, they will not be able to know where to dig in other to get he well of riches.

2. Low level of employment: When there is low level of employment from the government, the educated ones who spent all their lives schooling in other to get a certificate and start working, will not get employed and as such, they will tend to remain stagnant in life except something is done.

3. Overpopulation: There's a saying that says, the higher the demand, the higher the supply but here, the higher the population, the higher the chances of getting poor.
   For example, a family of 15 children will be very much difficult to maintain and of the father is not as strong enough, he will loose to poverty but in a family of 3 children, the breadwinner will be able to care for all of his children equally and still make it in life.

4. Ignorance: This is one of the major cause of poverty and as such, it needs to be treated ASAP.

People turn blind eyes to something that will give them tons of money, probably because they will have to invest to get that money. People are ignorant about risk taking, the only risk they are willing to take is Bet9ja or any betting platform and they think the could win big from it.

EXPLAIN AT LEAST 5 CONSEQUENCES OF POVERTY

1. Poverty can cause depression in the life of an individual. One of the major key to happiness is having resources and if those resources are absent, the person starts thinking of ways to get them and if there is no way, depression sets in.

2. Poverty can cause Domestic Violence: there's a saying of 'a hungry lion is an angry lion' but you will believe me when I tell you that a broke lion is a deadly lion. When the head of the family is broke and have no means of getting money, he will tend to vent out his anger to any nearby source to ease himself.

3. In a poor home or country, there is a very high risk of malnutrition because of the inability to provide the child or citizens with he basic nutrients needed by the body for it's functioning.

I am a nurse/midwife, lemme talk about the effects of poverty on maternal and child health.

1. On the fetus(baby inside the womb), poverty can cause intrauterine Fetal death (IUFD) and this can happen through these ways.

Remember I talked about domestic violence above yeah? Now, when the head displays physical domestic Violence to his partner due to depression and desperation caused by poverty, there maybe placenta abruption(detachment of placenta from the myometrium of the uterus) which will lead to haemorrhage(degree of haemorrhage is dependent on type of placental abruption) and ultimately IUFD.

ALSO

when there is poverty, the growing fetus will not get enough nutrient needed to keep it alive and as such, death can come in.

1. Maternally: poverty can cause Gestational Diabetes(GDM). Gestational Diabetes is a type of diabetes that comes during pregnancy. As we all know, diabetes is caused by the lack of function of the pancreas to produce insulin. Poverty can cause a pregnant woman to eat only one type of food(carbohydrates) cause that's the cheapest staple food and as such, GDM will set in.

WHAT ARE THE POVERTY ALLEVIATION STRATEGIES YOU KNOW AND HOW CAN JT HELP REDUCE POVERTY?

There are tons of ways I know to alleviate poverty and they include:

1. The government should create free education for it's people because some cannot afford the price of sound education

2. Basic amenities should be provided for the citizens

3. The health sector should encourage family planning among couples

4. Empowerment should be created for the youths

WHAT CAN YOU DO PERSONALLY TO ALLEVIATE POVERTY IN YOUR LOCALITY

Personally I cannot do anything.. the poverty fight is not something a person can carry out personally. However, with the aid of everyone in my locality, I could implement these strategy of poverty alleviation.

CAN STEEMIT HELP ALLEVIATE POVERTY? EXPLAIN

From my perspective, NO. Steemit cannot help alleviate world poverty but individual personal poverty.

Had it been this question was asked few years ago or even early last year, I will say YES it can help alleviate poverty but now? It's a no.

REASON

Newbies find it difficult in Steemit and even to verify a newbie in the platform is very hard.

However, I know I'm not in a right position to say, but I will say that steemit should fix it's people first by helping them grow in the platform before it thinks of solving world poverty.

CONCLUSION

Poverty is a very deadly thing and it affects anyone who isn't ready to stand and fight it head on. There are different effects if poverty on the world and things can be done to alleviate poverty.

Steemit could alleviate global poverty, but first it should alleviate its internal poverty before thinking of going for poverty alleviation globally.
