What is gift giving?

Red liner. png

Gift-giving is a practice of expressing thoughtful gestures in the form of monetary or materialistic things. It is a means of expressing inner feelings or happiness and an act to encourage others. Gift-giving is an act of appreciation to boost the morale of the receiver to continue doing the appreciable acts with zeal and zest.

So gift giving can be defined as per the situation and the motive can be variable. In all circumstances, the intention is optimistic.

Should it just be for a season in a year? Explain?

Red liner. png

Gift-giving should not be an infact it is not restricted to any particular season in a year however the frequency of gift-giving is more common during holiday seasons.

Christmas season or other festival seasons witness increased frequency of gift giving however the other occasions are seen throughout the year.

Name other opportunities that one can exchange gifts

Some of the gift-giving occasions are:

  • Birthday.
  • Valentine's day.
  • Marriage anniversary.
  • Superannuation.
  • Appreciation gifts.
  • Festivals like Christmas, Eid, Holi, etc.
  • Wedding gift.
  • Relationship celebration gifts like Father's day, Mother's day, etc
  • Professional days like Teacher's day, Doctor's day, etc.

What are proper items that can be exchanged as gifts

The selection of an item for the gift depends upon the occasion and purpose of the gift. I think the nature of the gifts may also vary depending upon the culture and traditional practices. Let's mention some gifts that are being given on different occasions.

Wedding gifts are shared as per the cultural practices and affordability of the two parties involved. Some of the commonly shared gifts are
Gold and diamond jewelry, money garlands, cash gifts, cars, etc.

Birthday gifts include items of daily use like wristwatches, bracelets, etc, or items used for decoration like sceneries, LED lit gifts of variable shapes, etc.

Superannuation gifts may include flower bookies, flower garlands, sceneries, wooden photo frames, and decorative frames praising the employee etc.

Appreciation gifts may include books, Pens, cash gifts, etc.

What should be the right motive for gift giving

Red liner. png

Having mentioned above in the definition the motive for gifting can vary from occasion to occasion. Let's highlight the motives behind gift-giving as per the occasion.

Appreciation gifts to students for securing good grades are meant to boost the morale of the students so that they keep on working hard.

Wedding gifts are given to make people feel special and inculcate positive vibes into the atmosphere.

Gifts given to teachers, doctors, parents, etc are meant to make them feel special and also highlight or emphasize the importance of these professions or relations in human lives.

The gifts given at festivals are given to express happiness and share the same with others.

Who is qualified to give gifts?

Red liner. png

Before we understand who can give the gift it is important to understand that the value of the gift doesn't reside in the monetary value of the gift but in the intention of the gift.

Keeping the same logic in view, everyone is qualified to give a gift to anyone as long as the intention is kept in mind.

The materialistic mindset of people has destroyed the spirit of gift giving and that's the reason this question is being asked.

Red liner. png

How should the giver and the receiver feel about the act of giving?

Red liner. png

Both the giver and receiver should be thankful to each other. The giver should be happy for being able to express themselves and the receiver should be thankful for being encompassed by optimistic people who care for them.

Hi respected, @drqamu. Always great reading from you. Just as said, gift giving is a way one expresses acts of humanity to another by reaching out through monetary or material items. It is usually expressive other than in anticipation which gives a correct impression about the motive.

Great entry and best of luck in your submission.

Thanks for your valuable interaction.
