One of the strongest key to a successful family, is ability for one to forgive, forgiveness is a very strong key factor for families to succeed, for some people it is easier to say the word forgiveness than to practice the word, forgiving is the easiest thing but also the hardest thing for one to do, at most times, family who are unable to forgive always face difficult challenges.

Forgiveness is the act of putting aside hate, anger, bitterness, and showing love, kindness, compassion toward others, irrespective of the offense one has committed. This simply means, the ability of let go and not withholding grudges against a person, even in the bible, Jesus had explained how it is important for one to forgive, often times, forgiving is easier said, than practice, but this should not be overlooked, as it play a very big role in the family too.
What causes forgiveness to settle in? |

Before delving into how forgiveness unites family, let's quickly see what brings about forgiveness, how does it come in place? The major act that brings about forgiveness in a family is Conflict, one of the more reason forgiveness come to settle in, is when there is a dispute between two or more people or even among group of people, YES, this is what brings about forgiveness, without conflict, there won't be forgiveness, if everybody is living right, no disagreement, no one offend eachother and there is peace, do you think they will be need to forgive?
Conflict is a disagreement between two people or group of people, however, family consist of people, and there are no exceptions when it comes to conflict, as far as people have different way of thinking, conflict is bound to occur. The only way conflict could be resolve is through forgiveness, this is when one choose to let go of anger and show love.

Having said that, families are no exception to conflict, conflict is bound to occur, and one of the way to resolve it, is through forgiveness, forgiveness can unite the family by bringing peace in the family, most time, what tears apart family is when there is no peace, a family who learns to forgive, will mostly have peace in their home, forgiveness can also unite a family by love, its takes out of love to forgive, even though it hurt.
However, it is not always easy for one to forgive, especially if you are betrayed by your own family, it also can only take the grace of God, once it reaches this stage, that is why we ought to pray for the strength and grace to always forgive.

According to your post, forgiveness is the act of keeping Aside hate, anger, bitterness and showing love, kindness and compassion towards others. We all have our special way fo defining forgiveness, to me it's just a process of letting go of resentment cause by our friends, family, our neighbors and whoever. This word forgiveness is more powerful than how it is pronounced, it might sound easy but trust me to forgive is not always easy, at this put we need love to conquer the difficulties of forgiveness.
