Hello dear friends!
Today I join my Community again to participate in another of its challenges and this time from the hand of my friend @ngoenyi who asks us to talk about our biggest childhood dreams. Thanks to my friend @mariajruizb. I invite you to participate ! Here is the link!
When you are a child you tend to idealise a profession and if the person you love has it, that will give that profession a plus. In my case, becoming a doctor was my biggest dream. I used to play with my stuffed animals and dolls pretending to be patients. I always liked helping people and I felt that being a doctor was a good way to do that. You could say that my life already had a purpose. The bonus I was telling you about was that my mum did injections and also by that time I was doing a correspondence course in nursing. Boxes of books, pamphlets, patient gowns, injectors and other medical supplies were always arriving at my house. I remember loving the way they smelled. At times I felt like I was in a doctor's office.
Mom, my inspiration!
MY GRANDMOTHER MY FIRST PATIENT!
My grandmother used to give herself vitamin injections, she had to ask a neighbour for help, I remember it was B complex and when mum started her nursing course, she allowed mummy to inject her. As time went by, I turned 10 years old and I also wanted to inject, take blood pressure and all that stuff that mummy did and I asked her to teach me and she did. One time my grandmother came home for mummy to inject her, mummy prepared everything and as my grandmother was very nervous, she always closed her eyes so she couldn't see. Mom took the injector, gave it to me and said in a low voice _You give her the injection_. Excited but with some nervousness I took the injector and gave her the injection. Mum stood in front of my grandmother and asked, _Did it hurt? And she replied, "Chachita (as she used to call me) has a light hand. I remember the three of us looked at each other and laughed. And I didn't think she would notice!
My grandmother and me at the door ;)
The years went by and I helped many people in my community by taking their blood pressure, giving them injections when they needed them, but unfortunately it didn't go any further. In order to study medicine at the UCV (Central University of Venezuela) I had to have someone I knew at the university to be able to get a place and there was not the opportunity that there is now to study Integrated Community Medicine as part of a state policy.
Today I am a teacher and I love my profession!
Thanks for being kind and read my post!
