Good day fellow steemians out there. It is indeed another privilege to be part of this week's contest. The topic presented for this week is of great interest to me because I believe I am where I am because of the efforts of my parents.

Parents play a very vital role in the physical, emotional and mental upbringing of their children. Parents should not ignore their role in bringing up their children.
How has your parent's behavior affected you? (Positively or negatively?) |

Personally speaking my parents have always been a source guidance on my path through life's journey. My dad for example when he was alive would always advice us his children to cultivate the habit of helping others and I for one saw how he helped so many people, even those we taught were his enemies. This attitude of his prompted us to also help others.

My parents may not be perfect. But one thing i know for sure is that they've always tried their best to make sure that I always had something good to learn from them.
Let me share an experience I had with my mum that shaped my life.
Growing up as a kid, there was this boy who would always mock me whenever he sees me. He would make fun of me in front of everyone and whenever I reported him to my mum she would say "Don't worry just let him be after sometime if you stop answering him he will stop insulting you". But I just couldn't comprehend it at that time because I expected my mother to go to the boys home and scold the boy like every other parent would do.
I heeded to her advice and stopped answering to the boy whenever he insulted me. After sometime, I discovered the boy stopped mocking me whenever he saw me but rather he started coming close to me and we finally became friends. And even up till now we are still friends.

There is a saying that what an elder sees while sitting down, a child will not see even if he climbs the highest mountain. Our Parents have experienced life ahead of us so I believe that they can use this experience as a tool to guide their kids.
Parents should act as role models for their kids. As a parent, the first person your child sees and learns from is you. They should continue to see you as a guide all through their lives.
Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Above all, love is the most important element in imparting good values to our kids.
