Contest: sknp-schoolrunsw7: My school experience

           INTRODUCTION

Hello friends of steem kids and parents community, it is always an exciting season of school runs. For this particular session, school runs will soon come to an end for this term. It is always a great season of running around every morning trying to arrange or prepare to go to school.

In Nigeria, the increase in the prices of goods and services has made it even more strenuous than it should be. We now have to pay more for transportation down to school, more money to prepare food for the kids because of the high prices of commodities. Even as a teacher I understand the things the parents are going through to prepare their children everyday.

School runs could be an interesting task and just like every task, it comes with a lot of responsibilities.

I am currently the mathematics teacher in my school. Teaching Mathematics everyday isn't always easy because one has to look for methods to explain clearly every mathematical operation. Sometimes the pupils don't understand and I will have to look for better ways to explain to them.

Last term wasn't so great a term when it came to the area of punctuality, so I had to make plans this term to be early to school. This is the ninth week and I have been the most punctual teacher so far. I have been very happy with this development because it seemed it was going to be very difficult when the term started.

Well I go to school everyday of the week because I teach everyday. I don't stay back from school and I haven't stayed back this term.

When it comes to activities in school, I always try to participate so that my pupils will enjoy it everytime. One aspect they love is sports and also how to play the school drums. Almost all of them love playing the school drums. But a lot of them don't know how to play. So I taught them how to play the drums.

I also told them that if they don't come early to school they won't play. I was surprised on Monday that almost 20 pupils came before 7am. They all wanted to play the drums. It was a good feeling for me too, I knew that they enjoyed the healthy competition.

Sports is also what they enjoy doing and I taught them how to play football. Doing basic skills like shooting, dribbling and passing. I believe they all had a great time with me.

I enjoy teaching my pupils, though it is stressful teaching 5 classes everyday for 7 hours but I enjoy doing it. The part of the job that is burdensome is the marking and preparing notes aspect. I mark a lot of notes because of the number of pupils I have. So the marking aspect is always stressful. But I still have to mark and prepare notes because it is required of me.

One thing about being a teacher is that you have to plan for the coming week. Well for next week, we are starting our exams, which means we have to arrange and keep everything in place to make sure the pupils have a successful experience.

So I am preparing to revise with them, supervise classes for the examination and also mark scripts on mathematics. It will be a long week ahead because we have a lot of work to do.

Achieving all these is quite going to be enjoyable because I will be taking it one after the other.

The picture above was the first day school resumed and a lot of pupils didn't come because of the culture of not going to school on the first day of resumption, which is totally not good.

I can't afford to miss any school day because that will mean my pupils won't learn mathematics. So I have to avail myself. Even when I was a student, my mom wouldn't allow us to stay back from school, in fact we almost didn't stay back from school unless we were very sick. So I have grown with the mindset of not staying back from school.

As a parent, we shouldn't allow our children to develop the habit of staying back from school. They will miss out on their development and learning process.

School runs can be enjoyable and also burdensome but it all leads to the goal of being successful.
