Greetings everyone,
I am glad to be participating in this contest that has been put forward by @ngoenyi. It is really a good one because it has really reminded me of my childhood 😂.

What my childhood was like
Well, my childhood was really fun. I rarely got a chance to play at home because my mother always wanted me and my little brother to be indoors. We always played together until school time came. I was in boarding school from my primary one so when I went to school, I got a chance to play with many kids without restrictions. On the weekends my aunt would come and pick me up so I spent my weekend holidays at home and reported to school on Monday morning for classes. I was a very stubborn girl but my looks were innocent so it was hard to convince someone that I am stubborn 😂 till now😂. I really loved playing, I loved eating a lot and sleeping after lunch because it gave me a class break till the following day though I rarely fell asleep during this time.

What pranks did I play in my childhood
A prank is a practical joke with mischievous tricks played on someone generally for you to have fun. Most people don’t like pranks because they cause confusion, perplexity and discomfort.
Some of the pranks I played in my childhood are;

  1. Hiding my friends’ property
I had a best friend called Emily who I sat with on the same desk. We were always together and played together in most cases. When we were in class I loved hiding her stuff so that I see her looking for them while I laugh. She at times knew it was me but I would pretend as if I know nothing about her property and even help in the search and later put it back without her noticing. This gave made me happy but still it was not good because I saw my friend stressing about her lost property but couldn’t help.

  2. pretense to be singing
From my childhood, I did not know how to sing. I always tried singing but i dint have that voice 🥺. When we would gather as a class to sing, I would be opening my mouth pretending to be singing but no volume was coming out because I knew how terrible my voice was. One time I joined the school choir because there was an inter-schools competition for singing and it was being held at my little brother’s school. I couldn’t miss out this chance so I really risked a lot to keep myself in the choi. I went for practice most of the times though when we were singing individually the choir master would chase me away but I would still come back the following day and hide among the people at the back. I thank God I was lucky enough, I managed to go for the competitions and meet up with my brother.

  1. A pinch or knock on the head
This was always my best. It always happened when electricity went off at school and we were still in class. Whenever electricity had gone off, we would all start screaming because of fear of darkness but some of us used this opportunity to have fun. I remember I preferred knocking someone on the head to pinching and I would go down very fast to hide so that I am not in trouble. This really was fun. When electricity came back, I was always already in my sit waiting for those that have been caught red-handed. I really played this one smartly because I had never been caught.

  2. Map drawing
Some other thing that I really liked but failed was drawing maps. I was not good at all in this so my geography was really hard for me. In geography, there was a lot of map drawing which made it hard for me to scoop marks on this. When I was reading for exams, I would always read the theoretical part and never touch maps because I knew my issue and also hated them already. In the exam, I would play a prank on the teacher by pretending to be drawing my map. I knew they always gave a mark for the title of this map and a mark for the compass direction so what I did was pretending to draw just simple lines and leave it at that. This made the teacher think that I had just started drawing and got caught up by time and ended there so that I am given the two free marks for the title and compass.

This is what I always did

  1. Escorting
Still in my childhood, I hated escorting my brother when he was sent to the shop, though I always wanted him to escort me when I was sent. Before he noticed my prank, he wold plead with me to escort him which I would agree to. So, on our way, I would walk behind him and when he had real thought I was okay with escorting him I would run off till home and I don’t even know where he noticed my absence from but he always got me home and complained.

  2. Tasting my friends’ fears
I also loved this because it was fun and it was hard for a person to notice it was a prank. I would get a smooth long grass and pass it on someone wanting them to think it was a housefly or mosquito passing on their bodies so most people hardly looked at that area to see. They would just hit themselves to send away the so-called insect. I would laugh quietly at this and repeat it several times.

  1. Dodging housework
When I was in my secondary level, we were all given housework around the school. My housework was to scrub the trench behind my dormitory but I rarely did this. When the matron would come to lock the dormitory, she would check every bed to ensure everyone is out. But, when I heard the bell, I would fold my blankets in form of a circle and fold myself under it. She never got me at all so that would make her think I had gone out and my blanket was just bare.

Well till today I still play some pranks though rarely. When I do, it’s usually on my siblings or on my boyfriend though it’s not as fun as before.

If you have a child, how will you react to his or her pranks?
Well, I was once a child and I loved pranks, so I can’t stop my children from enjoying their childhood however I would advice them to stop some pranks that would really scare or shock me as their parent. It’s good to have fun but in the right way so that’s other are not negatively affected b your pranks.
