In this article, kids are going to learn:

  • what bullying is
  • why bullies do so
  • what kids can do if they're bullied

What bullying is

When a person habitually make someone feel bad by insulting, is intimidating or threatens to cause harm to someone just because he/she thinks the other person is vulnerable or weak. That is bullying. This may include

  • 😫😫 Attacking a seemingly weak person with hash words: A bully may say some very nasty thing about the other person. It might be calling names because the victim is fat, slim or short.

  • Isolation: It may involve excluding the victim from playing with fellow kids at school or in the neighborhood.

  • Destroying a person's reputation: A bully may resort to posting a victim's bad photo online or even to the victim telling him to pay him/her a certain amount of money otherwise, making the picture go viral.

Why bullies do so

  • Some do so because they were victims of bullying in the past so they want to make it up to themselves and simply fit into the space.

  • Others do so because of parental bad examples or they see some other family members treat others badly. So parents should be a good role models in this.

  • Still some bully because they lack safety so they hide behind their feelings of insecurity to bully others.

It has been noted that people who are regularly bullied are

  • lonely kids: Due to lack of ability to easily make friends so as to socialize, lonely kids are often bullied.

  • Some kids are usually bullied because of the way they look, it could be that they are short, they might be slim or too fat, or they have some physical disabilities. In fact it can be anything at all the bully see not appearing good.

  • Often it can be those kids that lack self worth, they are easily noticed that such kids don't feel too good about themselves.

What a kid can do when bullied

  • Don't show affected by the bully. If you do, the bully succeeds and will not relent. So always keep calm instead of reacting negatively to the bully.

  • Don't bully back. No No, it won't help you rather escalate the problem.

Return evil for evil to no one.—Romans 12:17

  • Do not walk into the area where bullies are often seen. Choose another path.

  • Instead of responding hashly, try making a mild response, this can alleviate anger.

  • If the bully makes bad remarks about your stature say calling you "orobo", "Fatima", "alinga"; just laugh. Tell him/her that you can lose weight, in case you are fat, or, you can add weight, in case you are too slim.

  • Leave the scene silently. If you do, you have won.

  • Improve on your self worth, this makes it easier for the bully and others to respect you.

  • Above all, speak up. Tell an authority about your experience, tell the bully that you will talk. This helps to neutralize bullying.

In conclusion, you parents, please help your kids from being bullied. Help your kids to stop bulling fellow kids. Show good examples at home, in your neighborhood and elsewhere.
