Protest! Protest! Protest! It was an event people were waiting for to express themselves against the recent increase in the price of foodstuffs and the suffering in the country. Right before the 1st of August, people had already started protesting at the Lagos toll gate in the evening. They were all waiting for the main day, which was the 1st of August, the new month.

MORNING

I woke up at about 8 am because it was a holiday for me. Some businesses and workshops shut down on Thursday. My boss only instructed me to wait till she confirmed our work area before I could go out. It was a special day because that was the only day I had to spend my day at home. I can see how my neighbors were looking at me because they only saw me early in the morning and during the night.

At 8 a.m. the protest started in some local government offices, like Ikeja, under bridges. It was the topic of discussion from different neighbors. My brother asked me to help him wash his clothes, which I did. After washing, I hung them in the backyard just like everyone else.

Before I finished washing it, it was already 11 a.m. so I went to buy some snacks and food since my brother does not like cooking at home. Some shops in our street were locked too, so I had to search for any available store to buy food. On my way, I noticed the street was so quiet, as everyone was scared of the protests for some reason. It didn't end well the last time people protested, especially in Lagos. Maybe you might be hearing about heroes who die at the toll gate in Lagos. Nigeria.

Some people lost their lives during the previous protest, which makes people scared to join the ongoing protest. I was searching for where to buy food. I bought some snacks, buns of N200 naira, which is about 0.51 steam, and I ate them while heading to the store. I was able to find a small restaurant where I bought my food.

I bought jellof rice N400(1.5 steem), 2 meat N200(0.7 steem), and beans N300(1.1 steem). The total of everything I bought was N900(3.3 steem). The remaining N100 was to buy pure water, making it N1000(3.7 steem). I headed back home. Before eating, I took my bath and freshened up. I eat my food, and I lay down on the bed resting.

AFTERNOON

Suddenly a message popped up, which happened to be my good friend in Oshodi, still in Lagos.

We started a video chat, which lasted for about 3 hours. The chat was fun as we talked and laughed about many things. She is a fun friend to be with, a crazy individual sometimes. How time flies. It was already 3:40 pm, and she had a Christian meeting by 4:30 on Zoom, so I had to let her go. I called my friend who lives close to our workplace to find out their whereabouts, but everyone was at home.

After the video chat, I came online to find out how the protest was going, but the way some people protested got me laughing. I saw a particular news story about a woman who protested an empty pot, claiming it was because of the government that made her unable to find food to eat. Someone even protests about finding it hard to get a husband; it's all cruise.

Different news was flying on social media about the protest; some people claimed to have been chased and arrested by police, while others posted a video showing police guiding the protesters to maintain peace and order. Whatever it is, I don't believe in social media news except if it happens in my presence. I heard that some people still lost their lives in some parts of Nigeria during the protest.

EVENING

Before you know, it's dawn, and I took small bread and minerals as my night food because that's what I could afford at that time. That's how I spent my day. Thank you for reading my diary; see you in my next article. What do you think about the ongoing protest in Nigeria? Have you joined the protest? Share your experience.

Honestly I didn't see any real benefits of the protests. It was just an overhype as nothing has really changed, infact it has gone from bad to worse...... I just took it as a day to rest and I'm glad you did same.

I was glad that i finally rested, i spent time sleeping and eating.
