My part In Executing the A child A million smiles project for week 1

As the executor of the project, a child, a million smiles, I felt responsible for ensuring that the project is executed and that the food aids get to the kids.

I began by seeking out schools that we can partner with. Yes, since it is a food aid, schools need to be informed in advance before the food aid is delivered. I and benton3 visited several schools after the first 2 that I already included in my post. Then, we concentrated on public or government schools. After we were told to wait and hear from them before coming, I proceeded with the purchases of the food items and the stuffs I will use to prepare them since it was going to be prepared food. On my way back from market, I received a call from one of the HMs that we need to go seek permission from the board controlling primary schools in my state.

Well, we were directed to the secretariat where we met the Permanent Secretary to the SUBEB where we were asked to explain our mission. After the explanation, we were asked to drop a letter seeking for approval. Well, this letter is yet to be submitted. I will ensure it is submitted. But while we were on this,but downed on me that private schools can also partake and this doesn't require much protocols. I put a call across to some persons including @okere-blessing, @goodybest and @alli001. Alli001 helped to get this particular school where we have been able to exploit first food aid.

We went to that school on Wednesday to officially inform them of our mission of which they accepted and gave information to the kids to take home in case anyone may not want his or kids to be a partaker.

I then began preparation in earnest. I needed to gather the cooking utensils, buy the remaining things remaining for the food preparation like the firewood, banana and others.

On Friday, I woke up by 4 am to be able to prepare the food and still meet up with my exercise routine. Thankfully, my husband assisted me in the preparation and it was ready but late. I was still able to go out for workout.

Our time was scheduled to be by 10.30 am because that is when the kids will be on break. We quickly went there after contacts with those in my team. @bossj23 @alli001 @nsijoro @benton3 @goodybest @okere-blessing @kidi40 @leosmart and @bessie2023 made it to the location. We received a warm reception from the head teacher. We were given a table and chairs to set our food. Then she organised the kids to come out in batches according to their classes. I love the orderliness that the kids were conducted. And the kids are disciplined in that they readily obeyed all instructions. They would collect their own food and return to their classes.

With the assistance of all team members, the foods were served every child that wanted to receive the aid. Some were assisting with dishing out the rice, other were adding egg, banana, spoon and so on. These many hands made this service easier.

The smiles on the faces of the kids made me especially fulfilled. That is what I wanted, to see them smile and to listen how this food aid has helped them. One actually said that he didn't eat anything while coming to school, but now, he is well fade. You can imagine that!

The teachers also partook of the aid and do you know that even some passersby wanted to partake? Well, few of them took part of the left overs after serving the kids. There is really hunger in town.

That's all I can say. A lot needs to be done. We still have so many schools to visit and with time, we will thoroughly give out this aids.

I am looking forward to the next project. The kids have to keep smiling 😊! I thank the volunteers mentioned above for their generosity.
