The journey to keeping the environment greener is one that is filled with joy and excitement. Growing our own food becomes easier and reusing wastes becomes fun.

Do you know about rabbits urine and faeces? I only got to know as a result of my quest to keep it greener. I had rared rabbits before but I never knew that I was throwing away a treasure that could make the environment greener. Now that I know, I will not waste it again but keep using it to achieve my aim.

Rabbits urine doubles as a pesticides and insecticides. It is also an organic fertiliser that is far more better than chicken faeces. Knowledge is power!

Earlier this year when I began growing my own food in earnest, I spent money to buy chicken faeces. And the chicken faeces is not used immediately but is kept for 2 weeks to enable it decompose. But do you know that rabbit urine and faeces are instant organic manure? Try to research about it. It will surprise you.

Cleaning the rabbits cage, getting their urine and excrement. Feeding them

It is our custom to clean the cage at most every 2 days. My husband does that most of the time but I had to do it today because he has been busy with work.

First, I used broom to sweep off their faeces and to scoop them out. It's a dry excrement more like that if goats. So, it is very easy to clean. I added them to the bag where we have been storing them for future use.

The urine is ultimately collected into a bucket due to the way the cage is built.

Once I was done, I fed them with the fresh leaves I got on my way back from exercising. I later gave them marsh in the evening and more fresh leaves.

in all, we now have 4 rabbits, 3 females and 1 male

Using the rabbits urine and excrement as a pesticides

I noticed that my bitter leaf trees are not healthy anymore. Pests are beginning to eat them up. See the picture below

To help stop this, I used the rabbits urine and diluted it with water and sprayed on the leaves.

I noticed that as soon as I sprayed the urine, the insects started crawling down the stems. Well, I can only wait and see the results of the applied insecticide and pesticide. All in one. Let's see if this will make the environment greener.

Transplanting my pepper nursery

the nursery

I had been waiting for the time when I will transplant the pepper nursery I had grown for sometimes now. Today, I finally made out time for it. First, I prepared the ground with the rabbits urine and faeces. I bored a hole where I was going to plant them. 6 different places.

Then I poured the urine in each of them

I then poured the faeces in too. Then, getting the pepper plants, I carefully inserted them in each of those holes and covered them with sand. I was careful to ensure that they seat properly in the soil. I had to uproot those nurseries with the original sand intact on their roots.

After closing up with the soil, I poured more of the rabbits urine on the soil around the plants as you can see on the pictures below

Other plants

  • My tomatoes plants are still bearing fruits. Just when I think I should uproot them, I still see some bearing beautiful fruits like this one in the picture below

  • Do you know that my 4 fingers fruit tree is already flowering? It is barely 6 months since I planted it. I was told that it will take like 3 years before it will start bearing fruits. But this flowering shows that it might not be up to that 3 years. I can only wait and see how things unfold

  • My pumpkins are doing well. I had to raise them from crawling on the ground using sticks to form a barn for them. They are greener and fresher.

In deed, keeping the environment greener comes with a whole lot of learning and benefits. I am enjoying it the more. See you in my next update!

Good idea to use the waste from the rabbits on your plants. I didn't have very much luck with our pumpkins this year. The patch grew huge but didn't produce any pumpkins.

Thank you. What could be the reason for the pumpkin not producing? You didn't use organic fertiliser?

I appreciate your comment and I will like to know if you have any ideas about the questions I just asked

I used a different fertilizer this year than we normally do, which could be the reason. We had a pretty good garden this year, but we had no luck with the pumpkins.

Perhaps the difference fertilizer could have contributed to it. Perhaps the pumpkin doesn't like it. Sorry about that. Maybe you can go back to your previous fertilizer next season

No worries...I think you are right.

It's good to have veggies and animals around ,but I can bet you the stress that comes with keeping and checking on them is another problem on it's own. Weldone ma'am I will come around to learn from you.

Stress? No. It is fun to care for them dear. Love overtakes any form of stress. Anyways, come, I will gladly teach you. Thank you, glad to hear from you again
