Hello friends. What a wonderful day it is. I am very grateful to the Almighty for the precious gift of life and the privilege of mingling with you all through this medium.

This contest hosted by @goodybest really draws my attention to it. The title is so captivating as it borders on a very unique yet not appreciated moral honesty.

So many people today do not value honesty, in fact, when you are honest, you are regarded as a weak and insensible person.

However, for a certainty, I strongly believe that honesty pays and that it is the best way of life.

I am going to tell you all a life story that well explains the importance of honesty in our various lives.

My Story

I formerly worked in an establishment that is into production. The raw materials used for the production and the finished products are items that could be used on a daily note. This thus presented a challenge in being honest and truthful.

My coworkers have the habit of stealing from both the raw material and the finished product and this is done in connivance with the supervisors. However, from the beginning, I decided not to be a part of their dubious practices.

Well it did not go down well with all of them. Imagine working with 20 persons in a particular department and you are the odd man out, it was really a problem for me.

This went on for a longtime, meanwhile the owners of the company were constantly complaining of shortage in production, thus losing revenue.

At a point the company could not pay the salaries for all the workers so they decided to lay off some staff.

My supervisor immediately submitted my name for sacking. While waiting for the names to be published, I got a call from the factory manager to see him. He asked me various questions concerning the activities of my coworkers, to which I plainly told that I do my work and go home, that I am not interested in whatsoever goes on after I leave for the day

I never knew that all this while, they having been observing all workers to fish out the bad ones.

Some days before the list came out, my attention was needed at the HR department, where I was told I am being promoted to the rank of a factory supervisor. I was shocked to hear this because it was the least I expected. When I asked why. The headof the department told me that over a long time now, they have noticed my sincerity and honesty in the discharge of my duties. That I have no hand in the problems the company is having. In fact, that if they have people like me, the company will be doing well.

The next day, the list of sacked staff came out and 98% from my department where sacked while I was promoted to be the factory supervisor.

I felt so joyous at this moment and could now see the meaning of the statement Honesty is the best policy and it pays.

Lessons from the story

An honest man does not fear any accusation. He is diligent in what he does and is not afraid at all. He sleeps well at night having no need for fears. Gains of dishonesty are temporary but that of honesty is permanent.
