Wednesday – I spy with my little eye – Mini contest (33)

Hello kids and parents!

Gggrrrr! We can either love technology or we can hate it.
This morning I am very close to hating it. I am sure you have also experienced this feeling somewhere in your lifespan.

We’ve been experiencing internet problems for the last 24 hours. Just to be told this morning that it can take another 24 to 48 hours for it to be sorted. EISH!

The only thing left for me this morning was to find a coffee shop where the fibre line is working. So, here I am!

The last week of “I spy with my little eye” was very interesting. A Steemian guessed the correct word but it was his second guess which is not allowed according to the rules. You are only allowed to guess once.
My friends, it is so important to check the rules from all the contests that you enter.

The clues for last week;

1. It is a 12-letter word starting with “K”
2. It is a hyphenated, compound word
3. It would go around neighborhoods performing a duty
4. It is no longer to be seen in cobbled streets

The word… “KNOCKER-UPPER”

Knocker-uppers were needed long before technology like alarm clocks and when the poor could not afford watches. They were the ones who got paid to wake workers up for their shifts.

It all started with them knocking on doors or ringing bells but soon they realized that they are not only waking up their paid clients but also neighbors who are not paying clients.

They were the ones seen walking in the streets with long poles tapping on windows. Some would also use a soft hammer or even a pea shooter. They would give three or four taps before moving on to the next window.

The golden question was, who woke the knocker-uppers?

If you can get it right to say the following tongue-twister fast, you might just get the answer.

"We had a knocker-up, and our knocker-up had a knocker-up. Our knocker-up's knocker-up didn't knock our knocker up. So our knocker-up didn't knock us up. 'Cos he's not up."

Of importance, it must be something that you can see and not something you can feel like an emotion.

• It teaches you how to use your logic and reasoning and
• It grows your vocabulary
