Good Thursday to all Steem kids and parents. I trust it's a wonderful day for all of us.

Today I will be writing in this wonderful contest in the steem kids and parents community. I will write a poem titled THE LION
.

THE LION
A beast so fearless
Fearless but not careless
Careful yet so ruthless
Patience is so priceless
To a lion and the Lioness

The lion is so cunning
Depending on flawless stalking
He eats prey still living
Having no tender feeling
And killing without caring

Hunting both day and night
Its roar causing massive fright
All animals take to flight
Any so slow at flight
Lose their life that very night

Let's learn more about the life of Lions.

APPEARANCE
The lion is an animal belonging to the Genus Panthera and having the scientific name Panthera leo . Lions possess muscular bodies and powerful forelegs armed with long hooked claws capable of tightly gripping their prey. They have fur varying in color from yellow-gold in females and reddish-brown in males. Adult males can weigh up to 190 kilograms while the adult females weigh much less , averaging at 130 kilograms.

HABITAT
The worldwide population of Lions is decreasing. The highest population of Lions is found in Africa with Tanzania recording the highest population.
Although Lions are commonly referred to as ' the king of the jungle ', Lions do not live in forests. These animals are actually found in savannahs and grasslands. The mountain lion or the Puma is found in mountains.

HUNTING HABITS
While hunting, Lions can have quick bursts of speed reaching about fifty(50) miles per hour. Due to their lower weight, female lions are faster than the males and thus they are tasked with chasing and isolating the prey of the pride. The male lions follow up by swiftly strangling the prey of the females can not do so.
After all the hunting, the dominant males must eat first before the females and their cubs.

Like most kings, lions have their enemies. The primary threat to lions is however rather surprising. It is other lions. Die to their territorial nature , male lions often attack the dominant male of another territory in an attempt to claim it. During an attack, the females will aid the dominant male to defend the pride. This is because if they invading male is successful, it will kill the cubs of the former dominant male.Apart from other male lions, the predators of Lions include the Hyena ; which loves to kill lion cubs.

The only animal which the fearless lion fears has its picture above . It is the elephant. This immense beast has a size reaching upt 13 feet in height and weighing about 6,400 kilograms. This behemoth can crush a lion with a single stomp. As a result, lions exercise due caution when approaching lions.
