Hello! esteemed parents and kids you're all highly welcome, it's indeed special to me to take part on this interesting contest topic on this great community.Whenever a salient topic as this is being given, I always have a smile on my face because as I'm beginning to understand, Steemit apart from being a block-chain technology is also a versatile platform loaded with potentials for researching topics and learning new things in diverse kinds of fields for users to explore and improve writing skills, building an improved vocabulary for personal and professional growth.Hence this contest topic is very endearing to me.

Being billingual means having the ability to speak and understand two languages.With the world becoming increasingly connected, the benefits of being billingual cannot be over-emphazised.The benefits of being billingual are more recognised and valued.

For the purpose of this contest, we will explore the advantages of going billingual or whether it's beneficial for an individual to develop proficiency in multiple languages, also we will examine the benefits of cognitive, professional, social, marital, business advantages of being billingual whether the effort is worth in pursuing fluency in more than one language.

What is your opinion about Billingual

Personally I like to go billingual if I would have my way, in fact there was a time I went as far as registering in French school in Portharcourt to learn French but I didn't continue to the end due to certain circumstances beyond my control then, until date I still intend to go learn French for virtual translation job opportunity that used to come my way and my future traveling plan

One of the best advantage of billingual is that, it will pave way for social and economic benefits. As the world is becoming a global village speaking more than one language can open up job opportunities, and make individual more competitive in the workspace, additionally, being billingual can facilitate communication and understanding between people of different cultures leading to improved social relationships, inter-ethnic marriage blend and a more inclusive society.

As a parent would you like your kids to learn, and if you're a kid would you like to learn another language apart from your mother tongue?

Yes of course, and I'm very meticulous about this because of the conspicuous benefits I have seen, I must ensure my kids learn another language but it must be a language of wither communication and has benefits of employment, social and economic potential.If I was to be a kid I would have loved to learn another language in addition to my mother tongue just as I have already said , it won't be any kind of language it must be a language that is widely spoken with lots of potentials, because most languages don't matter much.Additionally being billingual improve cognitive abilities in children.From the stable of science, studies have shown that billingual individuals have a better overall problem solving skills, creativity and multi tasking ability.This is because speaking two languages requires the brain to switch between languages which can elevate Cognitive flexibility and makes the brain more efficient, the power of language switch improves brain memory, retention and recall which can be beneficial in old age as it delays the onset of dementia and Alzheimer's disease.Therefore, I will definitely encourage my kids to learn another language.

Which other language (s) will you like to learn?

It's French, Spanish and at the local levels, Igbo and Yoruba. I love these languages because they are widely spoken and they have many benefits ranging from social, economic, and job opportunities.If I go to Aba, the Igbo speaking semi international market hub to buy goods, the little Igbo language I would speak would make me buy things there at relatively cheap price , the sellers would assume I'm their sister, they'll feel comfortable and confident in me and at such they won't cheat me with exorbitant price, that's the power of language.God willing, I have an intention to visit Canada in the future, I will need French to go to that city Montreal to be able flow well. If I had learnt French that time and became fluent in it, I would have hit a big translation job in a multinational oil company,I had the offer but wasn't fluent enough to deliver.I still have this passion to learn French language to add up to my mother tongue.

The benefits of learning more than a language are numerous stretching from social, economic, professional, inter-ethnic marital blending and Cognitive flexibility.

In conclusion, although billingual may be argued to also have the potential outcome of causing a mix up of the individual's language and the new language learned leading to mistakes and confusion in communication, also the struggle with the process of learning two languages can be frustrating as well .
The benefits of being billingual by far outweighs these downsides, the social, economic, professional and cognitive benefits of being billingual is great enough to contribute to an individual's personal and professional development.It is important to encourage and promote language learning in order to create a more interconnected culturally diverse society and at such it's indeed best to be billingual.
