Greetings esteemed pupils.Trust you are doing great.I wish to continue to be keep you busy with the lessons and homework.
Welcome to a new week,We shall be looking at:Division of three digit numbers by one digit number.
Division of three digit numbers by one digit number
We all apply division in almost our daily activities. We divide food, money etc. Division means splitting into equal parts. It is one of the basic operations in Mathematics. For example if want to divide 18 by 9,it means dividing it into equal parts which gives 2.
The answer obtained after division is called quotient.
Let's look at some examples that will help you to understand and appreciate the topic.
Examples
1.)Divide 275 by 3
Use 3 to divide 27 to get 9. Multiply 3 by 9 and Subtract it from 27 to get 0 and then bring down the 5.Divide 5 by 3 to get 1. Multiply 1 by 3 to get 3 which is the subtracted from 5 to get 2.....but 3 is greater than 2,so add zero to 2 to get 20 and affix a decimal point up the division table... Dividing 20 by 3 gives 6 and when it is multiplied by 3,we have 18 which when subtracted from 20 gives 2.
This will continue in that order because it is now a recurring decimal.
2.)Divide 195 by 5
Use the same procedure as mentioned in example one.Divide 19 by 5 to get 3.Then multiply 5 by 3 to get 15.Subtracting 15 from 19 gives 4.Then bring down the 5 and so the number becomes 45. Dividing 45 by 5 gives 9.Then multiply 9 by 5 to get 45 and when subtraction is done,it will give zero.Thats the end of the division. This one did not lead to a recurring decimal.
3.)Divide 365 by 2
Use the same procedure as mentioned in example two.
4.)Divide 223 by 4
Use the same procedure as mentioned in example two.
Homework
1.)Divide 135 by 4
2.)Divide 273 by 2
3.)Divide 165 by 2
4.)Divide 125 and 4
