MY SKILLS IS MY POWER

A skill can be said to be an ability that was studied into or learnt in order to perform a specific task. When we talk about skills, we talk about expertise. In the world of today, I would say skill pay better more than education and learning.

For me, I got in to learning skills when I was in my jss 2 i.e Junior secondary School 2. Being a very smart kid back then, I was always attracted to the use of systems, laptops and computers, I would bend head long into pressing phones. My mom will complain till she got tired. As time went on, my dad having observed my passion for computers decided to surprise me with a desktop computer, back then in 2017.

After getting a desktop computer gift from my dad, I went up to him told him my intentions of learning a skill. He was shocked and very happy, he immediately agreed to the idea. The following Monday, I went down with him to one of my favorite computer shops named “G & G TECHNOLOGY” at No. 17 Nkenya street. The computer center was owned and managed by George Udoh, and entrepreneur, he was very competent and skilled. My dad then met him, made arrangements for my training, although it was a part time training of which I began the following day.

In a very simple way, I would say I learnt computer operation in general, because as a result of the training came out as a pro in almost all the computer operational related skills and this skills are:

Typing is the process or acts of imputing and writing text by pressing the buttons on the computer keyboard. I was fully developed in the skill of typing through the use of a drilling application know as Mavis Beacon, I did hit the speed of 120WPM while training. But as time went on, with much experience, I became a much more capable typist.

Graphics/designing being the ability to create physical and visual content to help pass a message, to a targeted audience. As we know, graphics is a very broad field, I was trained on making designs of banners, wedding invitation cards, company logos, burial programs and all design related jobs.

This is another field of which I was guided into, and a very beneficial one. I learnt how to format and install windows in desktop and laptops at a very tender age, this particular skill made a hot cake, why? because the community of which we operated had less windows installers and people who can actually format.

Skills are very beneficial to learn, as it exposes children and youths to another world of their own to thrive in. skills give people the opportunity to start over again. I would encourage parents who try and ensure that their children learn at least one skill for the betterment of their future, as it would really develop the society and their children’s life.
