The fibs of my youth; uncovering childhood lies.

Welcome to my blog. It is interesting to know that a lot of things have been happening while growing up. Some of us were pranked many times and always falling victims to it while many of us were told some scarry lies that we must have believed to be true.

Today I want to talk about one of the many lies I was told while growing up and I believed it so much to be true not until I grew up and discovered that what was always scared of was totally a lie and that such thing cannot happen.

While growing up, I was told that if I swallow an orange seed or apple seed that the seed will grow up from my stomach to my head and people will be climbing the orange tree to take fruit from it.

This lies made me so scared 😱 of swallowing orange seed or any other seeds, if I mistakenly swallow any of those seed I will try forcing it out and most time happen to be unsuccessful.

Little did I know that such things can not happen because the digestive system where the seed passes through lacks the necessary conditions such as sunlight, soil, air and water for plants to grow.

As an adult when I first learnt that orange seeds can grow up if swallow. I had mixed feelings and emotions.

I felt amused for falling for that lie and at the same time relief of the fear of moving around with an orange tree 🪴 everywhere I go.
I also was surprised because I believe it with my full chest that those tiny seeds can sprouts up from the stomach.

I am still curious about how this lie started and blame myself for not questioning the lie soner because I had been misinformed for so long.

I had decided to verify information from that time onwards before believing them.

Though I was deceived with some lies while growing up I have decided not to do some to young children because doing so can have some unintended consequences.

It can erodes trust from children and foster dishonesty making them to grow up imitating dishonest behaviour.

It can make children to be anxious and fear over what is not so while imagining such a fantastical fears.

If we are honest to children, it will build their trust in us and as such, they will learn to rely on our word.

Our children needs;

Honesty,
Love
Care
Empathy
Open communication and
Reassurance and lies.
