Good morning friends on steemit. My name is Uzoma with steemit username; @uzoma24. Am new to this community and will be regular in your contests henceforth since I can't participate in most of your other activities here because I don't have kids yet. Am glad to participate in this contest, thank you @ngoenyi for organizing this contest.
My childhood dreams have always been to be a banker. And I fantasized about owning a Range Rover. These dreams were conceived while I lived with my parents in a compound with about 20 other families. Amongst these families is a young youruba man, Mr. Tunde, he was a banker. The way he dressed to work and the way he was respected by other tenants made me desire to be a banker also.
After my WAEC in 2005, I wrote JAMB in 2006 and did well also. I chose Accountancy in all institutions I filled for since the course will help me achieve my goal of becoming an accountant. Abia State University Uturu offered me Estate management, while Akanuibiam federal Polytechnic Unwana offered me Accountancy. I accepted the offer by Akanuibiam Federal Polytechnic Unwana and by 2011, I was done with my studies.
After NYSC, In February 2013, one afternoon, Peacejoe my friend called to tell me that he sent me a link on Facebook messenger to apply for a job. I checked it and low! It was a banking job. I applied and after about one month, I was invited for an interview in Lagos which I attended and was offered a job.
I worked with them from march 4th 2013 till 11th November 2016. My job with the bank stopped because the bank was finding it difficult to pay salaries. This is becau the new government made lots of monetary and fiscal policies that didn't go down well with banks and other financial institutions and tgey started downsizing their staff strength. My bank (Keystone Bank) rationalized and closed down 23 branches Nationwide and my branch (Ikot Ekpene Branch) was one of the branches affected. Some of us were not absorbed immediately.
Regardless, I can say that I have achieved that dream of becoming a banker, despite the fact that it was short-lived.
Perhaps, my second dream; my desire to own a Rage Rover was also conceived in same compound. Our land lord lived with us in same compound, but he lived in a big fanciful two storied building. He was a very wealthy Man who owned many cars, amongst which was a range Rover Discovery. He normally parked I in a prestigious place under the building (the garage). Once you enter the compound, you will first see the house. The car in question helped to add to the beauty of the house. Seldomly does he use this car, he only used it on special occasions and I have always wished to own such a car at some point in my life. Although, this have not worked out yet. But am certain that I will achieve and even surpass it.
When I have kids, I will encourage them to have great dreams and aspirations. And as a parent, I will help them tailor their lives according to their dreams, helping them build on the parts they have chosen for themselves.
For example, if my child tells me he wants to be a footballer, I will encourage him with everything he may need and when he is of age, I will send him to a football accademy to help him discover himself more and grow in that particular carer, this will help his dream come true.
In conclusion, vertualy everyone had childhood dreams. These dreams may change in form or type overtime as we come of age, regardless, dreams are very beautiful things and kids are supposed to be encouraged to nurture great dreams and aspirations while parents should help water their kids dreams to help them come true.
Situations of life may be a hindrance or may try to delay our dreams from coming true, but we should always strive harder and harder because nothing good comes easy. Just as I said earlier, I haven not given up on my dream to own a Range Rover. There are even more beautiful models and God helping me, I will achieve it and even surpass it. Amen.
