Hello, dear steemkids and parents it is a pleasure to post once again in this community. Today I will love to talk about an event that is actually viewed as wrestling in its own way. I want to talk about JUDO.
First let's talk about the nature of Judo.
Nature of Judo
Judo Is a form of martial art which involve two oponents who uses skills like movement or balance to gain a winning point over each other . It was adopted from traditional Japanese martial art Known as Jujitsu.
Judo which is a combative sport was founded by a Japanese Professor JIGORO KANO in 1878.
Judo became an Olympic sport in 1964 when the game was held in Tokyo, Japan. Judo first got official in Nigeria in 1972 during the preparation for the 22nd All African Games.
Basic skills in Judo
- The stance: This means that a player should have enough stamina so that he/she can be able to stand firmly
- The gripping: This means that when a player holds the opponent, he should be firm, in other for he/she not to let go
- The movement: The player should be quick to readjust to certain attacks giving by the opponet.
- The falling: After the grip, the player must try to fall the opponent down flat on the ground to gain a point
- The throws: This skill is the act of using full skill or power to throw the opponet on the ground
Equipment and facilities
- The mat(Tatami in japanese)
- A belt is worn which indicate the Judoka's standard or rank
- Judo suit (Judogi)
- Time piece for the officials for keeping the timer
- Writing materials for the officials
Rules/Regulation governing Judo
- At the beginning of each round, the Judoka must bow to each other.
- A judo match takes between 3-10 mins duration
- Playing roughly is not allowed
- Foul language is not allowed
