Thoughts about the newest Humble Drop and Historical Listing (up to April 2021)

Phew... another month, another set of games from the Humble Bundle Subscription! There is absolutely no way that I'm keeping up with the deluge of games from this subscription, but I have a Classic subscriber bundle, so it doesn't cost me much at all to get a minimum of 12 games every month delivered straight to my Steam front door!

Honestly, I'm still caught up in last month's stellar drop that included the really quite awesome Control! I loved (am still loving...) it so much, that I even splashed out for the added DLC!

Anyway, this month seems a little bit less exciting... not too much in the way of blockbuster games that I've been really wanting, but there are couple in their that have caught my eye, and there is even one that has been sitting on my wishlist and that I almost bought in a recent sale! I really should learn my lesson and stop buying games, as they often end up here on the Monthly Bundle anyway!

So, straight to the games...

The leading game is Sniper Ghost Warriors Contracts, apparently the first of a two part series at the moment. I've not really gotten into the Sniper series of games, I have them all (from bundles... ) but I've not tried them out yet. They do seem like they would be right up my alley, and this one does look really quite pretty as well! However, I'm not all too keen on the way that these franchises (including Hitman) have been bundled up to include about a million DLCs and lots of online leaderboard add-ons. I just want a game with a solid contained storyline... I don't care about beating anyone else!

F1 2020... sigh, there was a time when I might have been interested in this sort of game. However, I was always more interested in rally style racing games or Mario Kart instead of these sorts of racing and formula one games. I think this will be one for Bengy's Game Store!

Next on the list is Shenmue 3. This is agame series that I've heard lots about, and it seems to have a bit of a cult following. I have the two earlier games in my collection (thanks again to Humble Bundle...), but I've never played any of them. This does look quite interesting, but the game does look incredibly dated... plus the prompts seem to be for controllers and not mouse/KB. I will keep this, but I do wonder if I will ever get around to playing it!

Ummmm... Main Assembly... I don't even know what this is about! It looks like a sandbox constructor sort of game?!?!?!?... I guess it could be really interesting for someone, but I'm not sure that this is a keeper for me or my kids. Straight to the game store!

Hehe... Rock of Ages 3! I really got into the first Rock of Ages game, and I'm a big fan of the art style from ACE team! I think that these days, I'm probably over the idea of being a giant boulder smashing things on the way down a Monty-Pythonesque landscape, but I'm pretty sure that my girls (the young one in particular) will love this game! Definitely a keeper for family fun time!

Remothered: Broken Prcelain. PASS PASS PASS! Just the screenshots in the game store are enough to give me the shivers! I'm a complete wuss when it comes to horror, this is just going to deprive me of sleep! Straight to the store!

In Other Waters has an interesting hook. You play as an AI guiding a stranded xenobiologist. It looks like a nice indie puzzle/story game with a very unique art style. I will keep this one, it does look like that my older girl would love this game... if I don't get to it first!

Aven Colony is a city building sim set on an alien world. Well, the game does sound interesting, but will it be better than Skylines? The setting does have something going for it, but the player reviews are quite mixed. I'm not sure if I would keep this one for myself, I mean it does have pretty hefty competition from Skylines, but then there is that very unique setting!

Hmmmm... Simulacra is also a horror game, but somehow the presentation seems less scary! You are investigating the remains of a phone in both games, and uncovering a story as you go along. It seems like it would be a great mobile game, and I wonder if it translates well onto a proper gaming PC. Still, I think this is one that I would like to play and experience! KEEPER!

Colt Canyon... is very brown! It is a top down shooter with a pixel art style. I'm afraid that the minimalistic design and game style just doesn't appeal to me. It does tick the rogue-like and retro graphics boxes, but there is nothing in it that seems to sound really more than a bit of a casual play to me... pass, to the game store!

A puzzle platformer where you play as a disembodied head called Skully? It really kinda looks cute, and the puzzle angle does look pretty interesting! I think I'm keeping this one, the game looks perfect for the girls, and I'm even more than a bit intrigued!

Finally, we have Popup Dungeon. A papercraft Rogue-like RPG that I ALMOST bought on sale a month or so ago... I love the attempt at the replayable dungeon game (it even has add-ons for different settings!), and I'm just a sucker for papercraft style games! The only thing that had put me off previously was the somewhat mixed player reviews. However, now that it has dropped in this bundle, I can happily give it a go with no regrets! I think it is one that will appeal to me... but I do wonder if it will fulfill the promise of replayability!

of course

Is humble bundle a game developer?

Humble Bundle is more like a storefront. It operates under the pay-what-you-want model... it has recently branched out into publishing games though!
