An entry for Splinterlands Art Contest Week 164. A third in a series of video game box art mashups just in time for the recent release of the Grand Theft Auto games. Resources used in this case were of course the original Splinterland card art available on https://splintercards.com/ and also used for this weeks piece was https://www.gtabase.com/ where they had just the right amount of Vice City promotional artworks from Rockstar where I was able to grab proper background, color schemes. Font for PS2 was found on https://www.fontspace.com/ and https://www.gta-sanandreas.com/ had the GTA logo and Vice City fonts.
A couple of notes on the process: I tried to get a good mixture of human-like characters versus dragon monsters, as it was "Dragon City" but there was no way I was not going to be getting tiny pimp Prince Julian in this some how. Gloridax Soldier was a last minute addition riding that bike with wings spread out, I intially was going to take out the bike completely and have Fiendish Harpy flying through the dark city scene on that side but the more I looked at Gloridax's helmet and imagined wings behind the cycle, it was a lock. Glasses, martini glass, matchstick out of mouth, managed to keep all those from the original characters and add to the Splinterlands one. And while Camila is no exploding cars like on the original art, that card had such a good "action" to it with the wand all buffed up, put that in bottom center and tried to create different layers to differentiate the powers versus the character. Out of all the mash ups so far, this one was easily the most layers.
Thanks for checking this art out! If you liked it, check out the last two as well:
