Hello friends, how are you? I hope you are all fine. Animal art is one of the contests I love participating in. Therefore, I appreciate @shahariar1, who is a unique and dynamic moderator in the steem of animal community, for organising and sustaining this contest. This week, I have drawn a hippopotamus, and details of my drawing are stated below.

What is Hippopotamus
A hippopotamus is a very big or large semi-aquatic animal. This animal lives both in water and on land. They have short legs with four-webbed toes that splay out to distribute weight evenly, and this adequately supports them on land and in the water and they are most active at night. Hippopotamus are the third largest mammals on Earth and can live for about 30 to 35 years.

There are two species of Hippopotamus namely:

• Hippopotamus amphibious
• smaller pygmy hippopotamus

Hippopotamus are primarily herbivorous, meaning they feed mainly on grasses, but they do eat meat occasionally.

Materials For drawing

• Plain A4 paper
• Pencils
• Eraser
• Sharpener

Step 1
I began my drawing from the head of the animal. I first drew the upper jaw, the small ear, the mouth and the lower jaw of the hippopotamus. I drew the neck and then concluded with the teeth which some are big and others small.

Step 2
I drew the big body of the hippopotamus with the two front legs and its stomach. The front legs are not fully drawn because part of it is in the mud.

Step 3
Here, I drew the two hind legs of the hippopotamus. Part of the hind legs are also in the mud.

Step 4
At this step, I began shading the hippopotamus. I started from the head. I shaded the mouth and the teeth that are found inside inside. I also shaded the entire head which includes the upper jaw, the lower jaw, the eyes and the mouth.

Step 5
I shaded the large body of the hippotamus alongside the front legs.

Step 6
I shaded the hind legs.

Step 7
At this step, I shaded the mud which the hippopotamus was walking in, I also drew and shaded grasses around the hippopotamus.
