I was already overweight since the early days of puberty due to hormonal issues. But I was overall stress-free in my life. I used to have good sleep and normal calorie consumption overall. But, things started taking the wrong turn when I just graduated high school and it was time for admission to a good college. Just After high school final exams, I appeared for the engineering entrance exam. It went as expected but my sleepless nights were just about to begin haunting me.

I was constantly anxious about my future and dream to study engineering in a good college. I could neither sleep at night nor concentrate on something to distract myself. I played games, watched movies and ate lots of junk foods from stress. I had no control over how I ate or when I slept. When I finally joined a prestigious engineering college from our state, it was just a brief relief from these unhealthy habits.

Since the beginning of my college days, things started to become worse. To cope up with the pressure of studies and socialisation in a new environment I started eating more and more out of stress. I used to have tea even at 3.00 am. I ate anything and everything whenever I had money to spend or someone offered. Along with this, I spent uncountable sleepless nights playing games or overthinking about grades and assignments. The rat race in college education was tiring for me. I found an escape route either in junk food and excessive calories or sleepless nights with games and movies. I didn't even use to drink water regularly. There was a time, I almost replaced it with cold drinks. I couldn't sleep even a single night between mid-2017 and the end of 2018. Due to this, I had an unusual sleep cycle. I used to sleep at 8 in the morning and wake up at 3 in the afternoon.

All these bad habits resulted in me becoming obese after 2 years of hustle. Finally, I decided to change my unhealthy lifestyle with changes in my bad habits.

Obese me

Every night before bed I didn't use any digital device to relax my brain and eyes so that I fall asleep early. And, fortunately, it worked. I discovered that if I sleep on my back and remain straight, I fall quickly into a deep sleep. I drank lots of water, reduced the amount of daily sugar consumption. Combining all these, I changed my problem of lack of sleep and unusual sleep pattern.

For a short period, I switched to a protein-based diet and cut out unhealthy carbs such as artificial sugar, refined flour, etc. and started working out at home ex. running, walking, skipping, light abs/core exercise.

With time, I switched to a healthy normal diet with a limited amount of calorie consumption.

I discarded all the unhealthy snacks from my room and replaced them with fruits and dry nuts.

I follow my maintenance diet six days a week and cheat on my diet on the seventh day with foods that I crave.

DRINK LOTS OF WATER

Being within a routine helped me to control excessive stress-eating as well as working out made me positive and genuinely happy.

Now, I follow this exact pattern every day for the last two years with alteration in festive times or other emergency situation.

If any of you into these same bad habits, I would suggest you apply these tricks in your life for betterment at your own convenience.

Overall, change into a positive lifestyle can change your health completely. good luck!
