Before I start, let’s take a look at the concept of Oral Hygiene.

WHAT IS ORAL HEALTH?

This simple means the practices that are carried out in order to maintain a clean mouth that is free from diseases.

Now, there are series of activities that I do on daily and weekly basis to achieve a good oral health even though I forget some of them some times🤦🏽‍♀️

BRUSHING MY TEETH

I brush my teeth and tongue immediately after my breakfast and last thing before I go to bed with my Darbur Herbal Basil toothpaste or a fluoride based toothpaste and clean water but I prefer my darbur.

There’s the need to brush twice to get rid of food particles that are left in the mouth and teeth which may end up forming plaques and become a breeding ground for germs.

My toothpaste is a totally natural one. The Basil component is a natural antibiotic that fights germs and controls bacteria which is the main cause of gum and tooth problems and thus, promotes healthy gums, fresh breath and strong teeth.
This toothpaste also contains other key ingredients like calcium, herbal extracts, ginger, peppermint, coriander, eucalyptus and lemon oils. It’s a total package.

HOW I BRUSH MY TEETH

I apply a peanut size of toothpaste on my toothbrush and brush my teeth in gentle circular motion.
I then gently brush around the gums and my tongue 👅.
It’s very important to try and spit out every bit of the toothpaste and do not rinse so that the herbs stay as long as possible in the mouth.

NO SUGARY FOODS AND DRINKS

I try as much as possible to avoid or reduce the intake of sugary drinks and food because these will only lead to tooth decay. I would rather take more water than sugary drinks.

DENTAL FLOSS

I use dental floss as often as I could to get rid of leftover food particles and plaques in between my teeth. It’s important to rinse properly after flossing too.

QUALITY TOOTHBRUSHES

I shop for quality toothbrushes and I change all the tooth brushes in my home at most every four months.

CHEWING STICKS

Yes, I also use chewing sticks that are cut from a very powerful antibacterial herbal tree; The bitter kola trees. I learnt that from my Parents. They keep telling us that we should use them at least once a week to naturally strengthen our teeth and fight some germs.

SNACKING ON CHEWABLE FRUITS AND VEGETABLES

Did you know that snacking on fruits and vegetables like coconut, tiger nuts, carrots 🥕 helps to keep the teeth strong and healthy? Yes! The more active your jaws are, the more healthy they stay.

PLEASE NOTE

When shopping for toothpastes, please look out for these signs 👇👇

Green means that the paste is totally natural or organic.
Blue means that it’s half chemical and half natural while;
Red means that it’s totally chemical based.
We have to be proactive when it comes to our health matters.**
