As interdependent parts of nature, insects are studied in entomology in conjunction with each other and their environment. Insects contribute vital ecosystem services including pollination, decomposition and nutrient cycling. These complex traits and behaviors have allowed them to inhabit different niches from forests to deserts. Social insect species like bees or ants has developed intricate techniques for their colony and ecosystem betterment. Insects themselves are also a great source of food for many animals including birds, mammals and other wildlife. Unfortunately, some of these activities include habitat destruction and the use of pesticides, which will directly affect insect populations and lead to an ecological imbalance. There is a necessity to comprehend their ecology for both conservation purposes and sustainable agriculture further focusing on minimizing the effect of mankind in order to conserve biodiversity and ecosystem services.
