The conservation of injured, sick, or orphaned wild animals is further enhanced by the existence of wildlife rehabilitation centers. The sick and wounded animals in these facilities receive treatment with the objective of being released back into the wild. Employees and volunteers with proper training evaluate the conditions of the animals and their lesions, which may vary from simple skin lesions to complex surgical interventions, and perform the necessary actions. But there is not only the improvement of these individuals’ health they also focus on the rehabilitation of the animals’ behavior so that they can function properly in the wild after being released. Other centers have an active outreach component, where they try to inform the public on the importance of wildlife and the importance of natural ecosystems. By solving more and more problems with understanding wildlife issues, these centers make great contributions to biodiversity protection and environmental health.
