Animal _related legislation

This type of legislation may take various forms but deals in one way or the other with care, treatment, custody and rights of animals. Such laws exist in many countries and usually have objectives that prevent cruelty, abuse and neglect of animals. These include but are not limited to animal welfare, protection of animals living in the wild, and laws on the use of animals for experimental and medicinal purposes. In most states, such legislation requires providing adequate housing, food, and health services to pets. Other jurisdictions have completely outlawed or restricted such activities as animal fights, poaching and trade in the skins of endangered species. Animals in agriculture, film and theatre, and science also have their own specific laws governing their treatment. There is therefore an urgent need to enhance legislation on animal related issues in order to safeguard their welfare and conservation of biodiversity
