In the tradition that we started a few days ago with Tron, we are now about to embark into a whole new tutorial about Solana Test Network elements. It is about time to explore a different cryptocurrency. A cryptocurrency which is somewhat similar to Steem, SBD and Tron. This is going to be our cross training, in order to become a more intelligent cryptocurrency being. After all, we are not just a fan for we are a true blue power user. Believe it or not you will learn a lot from this nerdy expedition that only the most patient people could ever understand. Above is the user interface of the Test Network Wallet application that I chose to handle Test Network Solana.Remember I am just exploring innovative ways of exploring cryptocurrencies. So, please refrain from making accusations about my loyalty to Steemit and Tron.
The most obvious wallet for Solana Coin users is the Phantom Wallet application from the Android Play Store. I am not trying to scare you with ghosts but what you see is what you get with this wallet. It is fast and reliable as far as experimenting with Test Networks is concerned. Just install this application on your Smart Phone and you will be involve fully in this Solana adventure.
We are now involved in something similar to this with Google Play Store. Since this is a sort of throwback to the the actual installation, everything will seem strange for the "Update" button is now present. Of course , the "Update" button will not appear or even the "Uninstall" button if you are doing it for the first time.
The icon with a ghost icon is now ready to be clicked or pushed. What are you waiting for? Let us get it on. Solana Test Network here we come.
The first six mnemonic out of twelve is now in front of you. Please create multiple backups even though we are just going to use this primarily for Solana test network exploration and practical education.
We have an agenda when it comes to this tutorial and that is the use of Solana faucets (Quick Node), Solana Wallet (Phantom Wallet) and Solana Block Chain Explorer, amongst others. You will never regret reading this web blog, I promise you that. Right now our primary goal is to learn practical Solana staking. It says here that we are going to earn a minute amount of Solana every three days.
A very attractive user interface is now in front of us. The "Receive" button is important if you want to copy your personal Solana Wallet for pasting with a working Solana Test Network Faucet. There is a notice exactly above to inform the user that we are working through Solana Test Network. As it states the mode we are in, right now. This will somehow allow you to concentrate on Test Networks, so you you will not confused.
My Test Network wallet was officially created on July 23, 2024, just a few days ago. You can see the whole details of this screenshot and the first ever SOL that I have received using the following hyperlink https://solscan.io/tx/5MCRZn7XMYUNpn381Xwr91qypNH1Sw8gMPsCDTpogdtYnhj8Z29pXBrkGNPbNBgtjRa7HS6UKZAttd7yeQsWj9vA?cluster=testnet . It is a failed receive from a struggling faucet, in case you can't figure out what the error is all about.
The Quick Response (QR) code for your Solana Test Network wallet address is now in front of you. This is now your so-called gateway to discover the power of Solana Test Network.
Just click the very small icon resembling that of two stacked rectangular cards in the right side of your Solana Test Network wallet address and you will be able to see this "Copied" statement with a check mark. This means that your wallet address is now copied to the virtual clipboard.
After some short exploratory work, I was able to discover http://faucet.quicknode.com . I tried using other faucets but most of them failed. This one (Quicknode) at present is very prolific.
In case Solana Test Network is not selected by default, you will have to manually select it to get your Solana Coins and of course you have to paste or manually type your Phantom Wallet (Solana) address to receive it.
Now, I pasted my Solana Test Network address into the text area of the form. Please, make sure that you are using the Solana oriented faucet, if not you will not receive anything as it will spout error messages. And please, do not use this for scamming purposes. By the way, you have to click "Continue" button, to proceed.
If you want to receive 4 SOL, you have to pay a subscription fee, if you want 2 SOL you have to share an automatically generated Tweet into your X account and if you want just a single SOL just click the "No thanks I only need 1 SOL" to finally get your Solana Test Network coin or coins.
This is the full screenshot of this part of the Quicknode web application. It is for the purpose of getting acquainted with our present routine with regards to SOLANA.
In my case this web application is responsive to the point that it will show you the hyperlink to the transfer of SOL from their faucet into your personal Solana Test Network wallet.
Fast forward to 5 days(I think), It is telling us that I have at least 4 SOL in my personal Solana Test Network wallet. I already staked about 3 SOL before doing this. So, basically this wallet only shows how many SOL is available at present but all in all I have atleast 7 SOL in my wallet. Please be advised that I did this to let you see how robust Phantom Wallet is and Solana network itself. Thanks to Quicknode, I have SOL (Test Network) at my disposal and control.
If you want to stake your SOL just click or push "Stake" button. The next UI will come up next for your next set of instructions.
It is now time to stake our precious Test Network SOL, but first we have to select from this seemingly endless list of validators. It is your call. After all we are talking about your precious SOL.
I am going to click or push the one on top of this list. It is still up to you whom you are going to choose as your validator.
Now take a look at this user interface. It shows how many SOL is available for staking. Do not be confused I have been doing my routine of collecting Test Network SOL so right now I have at least 8 SOL in my Test Network wallet.
I clicked on top of the blinking cursor, and unsurprisingly the touch screen keyboard appeared. I have decided to stake 1 SOL.
I clicked the screen outside the touchscreen keyboard and the keyboard disappeared. As you can see the button with the word "Next" is highlighted. Your instinct will urge you to click it to proceed to other sets of instructions.
Now take a look at this.It is asking for your permission to click "Confirm". This will ensure that you really are hell bent on staking.
This is stating that Solana is creating a staking account for you. So what is next for you.
We discovered something new by doing this little experiment. It seems as if the validators are not allowing us to stake 1 SOL. Logically, your next option is to try other validators but again they are rejecting 1 SOL. We failed but we can always try again. Nothing is going to stop you now. This is your journey anyways.
I retraced the steps I have made in staking. Please repeat what we did earlier and just stake 3 SOL to allow you to duplicate my shallow methodology. Believe it or not, I have waited for 3 days before seeing some significant results. A minute amount was added to the SOL which I staked. A total of 0.01169 SOL was added on top my 3 SOL.
Click on this specific panel to see the staking details. I think you are curious as to what transpired somehow.
This next panel UI is next to be clicked if you really are eager to get more details and specifics.
You are now being informed that they deducted 0.00228 SOL. Technically speaking we were not able to exactly stake 3 SOL since they have rent reserve to deduct before and during Staking. We know now that we have to unstake to get access to this funds, so don't get confused.
This is the screenshot of the first few transactions that went in or even failed to go in my Test Network wallet.
I used Solscan Test Network blockchain explorer to take a peek at my transaction history. You can use the following hyperlink to see for yourself. https://solscan.io/account/SXNcQCvuAQTK9V4wK4GNvJiUhrDf6vjEB9wik3HDGgv?cluster=testnet
Let us create a hypothetical scenario. My business partner in the Philippines is currently having a cash flow problem and I happen to be residing abroad on vacation. She is using a different Solana wallet application and I am using Phantom will this create problems for both of us. Let us see.
She provided me with her Solana wallet address and then I copypasta the address into my Phantom Wallet.
I just clicked "Send" and everything else hopefully will go on smoothly. This is my first time transferring Solana, although it is the Test Network version.
I selected Solana since this is what my business partner is asking for. The thoughts running through my head while doing this is making me flinch even it is not a Main Network wallet.
I pasted her Solana Wallet address and clicked the "Next" button.
I decided to click and the touch screen keyboard appeared to enable to me to make an input of 1 SOL.
I only need to click "Next" to get it over and done with. I have decided to send 1 SOL to my business partner in the Philippines. Remember that this is just an exercise. A Test Network exercise to sharpen our block chain acumen.
It will incur some fees but it is very insignificant so do not hesitate to click "Confirm". It is also reminding me that I am currently using Solana Test Network which is perfect so as not to sow confusion.
Our precious SOL was sent to the intended receiver (l hope so). Keeping my fingers crossed. Just click the "Close" button to proceed with the next UI.
We are dealing with Test Network coins but Solana made it clear that it will not discriminate and it is making sure that everything is transparent and accounted for. A single unit of SOL was obviously deducted. I showing it to you so you will have evidence as to the reliability of Solana Blockchain Network.
Almost instantaneously my business partner received her emergency funding. A total of at least 7,000 Philippine Peso. Our business is in need of cash and Solana delivered. This is just a thought experiment and not an investment advice.
Conclusion
Solana is similar to Tron in many ways but still we were able to learn more about Solana and even Tron by using this exercise. This was not meant to antagonize the community as this is only a simple tutorial about Solana wallet rudiments. We were able to perform different operations using Phantom wallet and in the end we were able to send 1 SOL to a SolFlare wallet user. I hope you like this tutorial and presentation. Fin.
