SEC - S9W5: The Internet, my best ally

Hi friends, I will want to make my first entry for the week's engagement challenge in the community as presented by "Recreative Steem". The internet has been our ally since its creation. We should all be grateful for its emergence into space. A lot of things have taken its course since it came onboard and we can say they are of great deeds to humans.

What activities do you do online?

The activities I do online happen to be numerous given the kind of work and exposure I find myself. I work in the telecommunication sector which makes me an ally to the internet. Most workflow communication channels require that we should engage the internet before they are executed.

For instance, some of the network downtimes are communicated through the WhatsApp group chat for prompt resolution and general updates to all concerned. What about other resolution channels other than network escalation like the sim swap, Sim registration channels, etc? These are all powered using an internet-enabled device.

Remember that all I've said are resolution platforms for all these JDs. In carrying out a typical sim registration and sim swap process, it requires that one has to connect to the internet to get it done. The platform needed to synchronize with the internet to gain access.

Another second important thing I do is my indulgence in the steemit platform. I have come to understand that a greater amount of my time is spent in steemit just by default. Each time I am out of my offline job, my next peak hours are the platform.

Then lastly, my largely use time on the internet is on other social media and Job platforms. The likes of LinkedIn, Whatsapp, Upwork, Twitter, Telegram, etc. These are platforms that either help me socialize or look out for job openings.

Since what age did you start using the Internet? How much do you use it every day?

Telecommunication came into full existence sometime in 2001 with the launch of the full brand and today's MTN. It came with a relatively high cost for users when it was introduced. Access to the internet before now was limited as one would have to go to a cyber cafe, buy a preloaded time and then surf the internet. All these was happening between 2000 to 2001.

However, I would say that my use of the internet especially the mobile internet started sometime in 2004. This was when I purchased my first mobile device as well as a browsing device that had internet access.

During this period I was in my 3rd level in the University and in my early 20s. It was quite engaging as my use of this device started encroaching into the night and hence I was left with little hours of sleep for the night.😊

Do you have internet at home, how much does the service cost (please indicate the price in local currency and in Steem).

Yes, I have internet at home but this is connected in such a way that everyone gets connected irrespective of the location.

I presently use a MIFI internet device and with the sim inside of this device, I can connect up to 10 other devices through the hotspot route with the same and improved speed of 21bps.

This sim also allows me to share data usage with 5 other devices using the same SIM network. That is to say, when given access, for instance, the user can enjoy internet services no matter the location.

I presently consumed an internet value of 54GB worth 6,700NGN with a steem value of 45.3 STEEM.

Why do you think the internet can be harmful?

There is nothing that does not have side effects. It is all about the usage. The Internet can also be harmful given the exposure it brings to everyone's footsteps. Some of the harmful effects of the internet include ;

Circulation False Information:

A situation where false information is circulated in society without the required guide.

Means of Inciting and Causing Violence

This has been one of the dangerous use of the internet. Lives and properties are the most affected by this...

Addiction

Too much exposure to the internet causes addiction and hence much use of resources. These most times deny us of our routine and regular activities to be done. However, addiction means much time spent during usage and also much resources expended.

Teen Exposure to Adult Scenes

This is one of the worrying effects of the internet. Teens and the underaged are exposed to adult scenes and other harmful activities online. This not only brings immorality to them but also endangers them to practice activities that may hurt or cause serious damage.

What benefits has the internet brought to your life?

I am glad to be a positive user of the internet. It has impacted me positively in several ways which include;

Discharging my offline job

Due to the place of offline engagement, I have been able to utilize the internet in coordinating activities, providing support to subordinates, and as well escalate issues to promote resolution. Other activities and processes of the job are carried out with the efficient use of the Internet.

Blogging in Steemit

This is another efficient path the internet has offered me. I am able to log in daily basis using this facility. It does not only bring self-accomplishment through writing but also financial support.

Interaction using the social media platforms

Communication with other people and friends is easier and a little hitch-free with the Internet. Meetings, interviews, and other conference gatherings are done using this facility.

No doubt, the internet is man's ally. It has continued to provide support, make life easier, and help ameliorate or secure us through its advanced and automated user-case
