What do we make of this? Anything?

Last October, @justyy posted: Rumors say.. steemit was sold?.

In the post, he said he was 99% sure that it was untrue, but he had heard a rumor that Steemit had been sold. I also recalled some rumors from the time of the Witness wars that @justinsunsteemit planned to sell his holdings in about 5-10 years (i.e. 2025-2030), so a potential sale seemed unlikely, but not impossible.

Although skeptical, my curiosity was piqued. So, I have been doing an occasional web search to see if there was anything to it.

Today, I stumbled across this:

So clearly, "D.L." would be @dan. Obviously, then this website is not completely reliable. I have no idea who "C.H." is (if anyone). As far as I know, "E.P." is still correct. But, a "Last Update" date of May 5, 2024 for "J.M." in Colorado leads me to wonder... Is there anything to it?

I guess I could just give up my email address for a free account at the web site and see if they give out any more info, but I'm not that curious, so I'd rather just post about it 😉. One way or another, we'll know in time.

Incidentally, I also noticed that the avatar for @ned disappeared from the Steemit github page somewhat recently, if that means anything.

Personally, I'm still skeptical. Maybe "J.M." is a typo for "J.S." and Colorado is some sort of business address? Otherwise, I'm not sure how the relevant filings would have slipped past Crypto Twitter. But, I guess it's not totally impossible... What are your thoughts?

It's interesting. I remember a large stake heading to the exchanges a couple of years ago. In the region of 45m STEEM which at the time, I believe the price was high so would've returned Justin's investment? I think I talked to you about it at the time so it wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility.

Although cardboard says Justin sold Steemit, I think he's referring to Justin stepping away from Tron so don't think there's anything in justyy's post.

If Steemit Inc. was a UK company, my first port of call would be Companies House to look at registration details and accounts. Is there a US equivalent that has free access?

I've got a busy couple of days so probably won't have time to dig any deeper than you have.

I wonder who @brucemeerkat is.

That's interesting news. The fact that there has been an update also means that something is happening in the background after all. Which I think is good news.

The abbreviations don't mean much to me. As a companion from the earlier years, you have a better insight.
However, I am surprised at the number of employees. It's not a global corporation, but for that number I would have expected more visible activity overall.

I think that's strange. Only one person for the entire organisation! I can't really classify that yet either...

One thing that I've noticed on LinkedIn is that a lot of people list themselves as "Steemit bloggers" although they're (presumably) not actually employed by Steemit. I wonder if that dynamic is polluting the website's data on the actual firm... Maybe they're misclassifying "Steemit bloggers" as employees somehow. More questions than answers, unfortunately.

Agreed, and in reverse, I also always thought it was strange that Ned's avatar stayed there for as long as it did. Even his Twitter profile got scrubbed after the dust-up, but on github they removed all the other ex-Steemit avatars and left his.

Interesting question, which I have often asked about the "ghost ship Steemi INC". Also interesting is the fact that the Steemit.com front end still shows TRX Rewards, but they have not been paid out for some time.

Steemit.com is "only" a condenser for the BC. Although the most popular, there are plenty of other ways to access the content.

But what about the steemitwallet domain, for example? Who owns it and what happens if it is blocked, deleted or frozen due to some new law? The technical background and the business legal background/company or project responsibility/liability must be strictly separated.

Good point. There are options with Steemworld and the Steem Keychain, but they are limited and you have to trust the providers. There is also a command line wallet, but last time I tried to compile that my computer didn't have enough memory, and it requires some technical skills.

I think this is an insurmountable hurdle for 95% of users.

The big question would still be: who buys what?

Is it about the stake + bonus a condenser domain (steemit.com) with an outdated frontend? That's all Inc. is, if it still exists in this form today.

When I first started here, someone was making precompiled binaries of the CLI wallet for Windows users, so that would be a possibility for non-technical users. Of course, then you're back to trusting someone. It's the same way with any other crypto, though. How many people compile their own Bitcoin wallets?

The big question would still be: who buys what?

The more I think about it, the more I think that it's probably just a mistake on that website. I guess they probably got the name by scraping LinkedIn or something like that. Based on the ads on the Steemit website, I'm guessing that Tron still owns Steemit.

Well, it's nice to see some front-end development happening again and the proposal system being used prudently and effectively. I would definitely like to see a renewal of activity at the blockchain layer, but to be fair, I think that their curation activities are adding value to the ecosystem. It's not just the stake, but how it's used. One step at a time, I guess... 🚶😉

What an interesting news. Too bad we'll never see an official statement on this. I wish Steemit Inc was more open and public. But it is their right to be in the shadows.

Even though the rumour was quite strong during those periods, I have always known that it was actually knew that even if Steemit is sold, it will not affect the platform

Even for years, people are still thinking Steemit will crumble but it does not actually look like it

Upvoted. Thank You for sending some of your rewards to @null. It will make Steem stronger.

No matter what they do and no matter how much they try, I am so sure that Steemit will still be here for years to come
