The exploitation of children by greedy employers has become the order of the day. Poverty forces families to press their children into work so they make their ends meet. Disadvantaged children are easily available and are being used to carry out hazardous work at cheap rates.
Law completes prohibits the employment of children yet the evil of child labour continues to spiral, worldwide.
About 160 million children involved in child labour according to this report.

Today I attended a virtual event on Child Labour, organised by District Legal Services authorities Baramulla. As happens in every seminar, participants spoke well and resolved to contribute their bit to eliminate this veil of child labour. I hope this time they mean it. What generally happens is that, once we come out of the conference halls we roll the resolves up and become not only mute spectators but the perpetrators of these evils. Only humans have so many faces to wear that they sometimes fail to recognise themselves.

Getting involved in hazardous work is the worst thing that can happen to anyone at a tender age. Children are being kidnapped and trafficked and eventually made to work. They undergo hunger, abuses and harassment (sexual and mental).

Let's resolve to rescue and rehabilitate at least one child from this menace.
