It was starting to get annoying, they began investigating every step I took, perhaps my dad got tired of me resitting the examination every year without success.
So, i took my Sister's advice and started the trip to Kano.
It was my first time on a train, for fact sake, Kano is like the second largest industrial state after Lagos and you can imagine the Population.
It was hard at first but I adapted and started speaking their basic Hausa language.
The girls here are beautiful but the hijabs they were hide their beauty most of the time.
My sister was a teacher in a Local Secondary school in the community, we didn't have to suffer much even with the little salary the government pays.
Everything was moving well until when my sister started showing signs of pregnancy.
At first, I thought it was just related to her monthly menstruation process, we were taught that they (women) face many things during this period, but what do a 17 year old boy know about menstruation, actually, nothing.
She began feeling weak and there was a time when she couldn't go to work, because of her feverish condition.
One night, she called me into the one room apartment we live in and told me something that divided my heart into 600 parts.
My sister is Pregnant.
I was glued to the small chair I sat on and I didn't even make any attempt to kill the mosquito that was buzzing around my left ear like I used to.
The flame from the candle was moving from left to right as I followed it's direction with my eyes, the silence in the room was deafening.
Say Something, Uche, my sister urged with tears trickling down her face.
We used to confide in each other, tell our problems and give advice, but this time, I was speechless.
I thought about how Dad would make mockery of my beloved sister.
I thought about how money would be so depressed after hearing this kind of news, when I was still with them in Lagos, she used to brag to her friends In the market of how Chi Chi (They call her Chi Chi for short, her full name was Chinaza) would make her proud with her Doctorate degree, I used to see the glow in her face whenever she said that.
My Uncle would be disappointed, he singlehandedly sponsored my sister's education with the hope that she will join him abroad and get a decent job with her degree, My father was very bitter with this decision, since then, my father and his brother became mortal enemies.
I finally spoke, and when I did, I poured out my disappointment, I said bitter things and watched as my sister cried.
"How could she"?
"Didn't she think of my Mom, the pain it would cause her, my Uncle and even me"?
I pitied her as she cried regrettably, but I've spilled the milk already, I left her there and went to bed.
I woke up the next morning with a severe headache, my eyes were a little bit fuzzy, then I remembered what happened last night.
My eyes searched every corner of the room but I couldn't find my Sister, I checked outside but I didn't see her.
Maybe she had gone to school, I concluded in my mind and hoped sincerely that she hasn't done anything stupid.
Yeah, for a 17 year old, I might not know much about menstruation, I know more about life, about abortion.
I looked up and watched as my sister's figure approached me..
I greeted her and she replied, her reply was warm which made my heart jump up for joy.
She gave me money to go to the market to buy food that we would eat and I rushed out.
My stomach wasn't happy as my heart was.
Little did I know what would happen in the next 30 minutes.
I came back home, clutching the bag, I walked in to see my sister on the floor, she was barely breathing.
I rushed to her and placed her head on my laps, my eyes caught the sight of a brown bottle, some of the contents inside were spilled on the floor.
I.... I...tri...tried to co....to... correct my mis.... mistake.
The tears in her eyes were much more than that of yesterday night.
I couldn't control this, what would a 17 year old boy do in this situation.
I rushed out immediately to call for help but before I came back, she had given up the ghost.
I vividly remember her last words.
"Help me tell mom that I love her"
But how would I tell mom, I can only talk to her dead body as she died of heart attack when the news about your death reached her.
Till this day, I regret saying those words to you instead of comforting you.
you have very nice and your photography is also very cute
