How can I delete my post on steemit?

As a fresher on steemit, my initial thought on posting on steemit was attributed to the characteristics of the numerous social media out there where you can post, edit and delete a media or any write-up at your convenience until I run into this issue at SteemIt FAQ and I thought is wise sharing.

The understanding is that steemit is a website that makes use of the steemit blockchain as its data storage and Steem blockchains are immutable thus; they are not susceptible to change. However, posts can only be deleted given the circumstances that they have not been commented on or voted on and in this case, what steemit do is not to show that post anymore.

Another reason why posts cannot be deleted is that one might be paid for a post so as commenters and upvoters. This means that if you delete a post, you are destroying or even stealing the original content upon which people voted on or commented. Imagine upvoting, a post and the next time you came around the post have been deleted. You will feel cheated and disappointed.

A post will be active for seven days after it has been published and within this period, you have the chance to edit the post. The post becomes inactive after these seven days and editing the post within any day will not change its deadline of inactivity.

What can we do then?

The chance you have is to edit the post and delete the unwanted contents. This way readers will only see blank posts onwards, and the original post remains as a history in the blockchain.

Precautions before posting or commenting

Make sure that whatever you are putting out there you would not regret it in the future. This is because your friends, your partner, your boss, and everyone is likely to get access to it.
