Thousands of small rice farmers like Moiz Asadullah in Pakistan, fed up with the frequent floods due to erratic and unreliable seasons and rains and climate change, are forced to say goodbye to rice cultivation and replace it with vegetables. Are preferring to cultivate. However, due to low education and weak financial conditions, they are seldom able to cope with the negative effects of climate change on agriculture and these farmers are facing huge economic losses.

Agronomists say that unlike poor and small farmers, large, educated and economically strong landowners can lend their support to a variety of technologies, such as improved shipments, new agricultural implements and modern drips irrigation used for water conservation purposes. With access to technology, they are becoming increasingly successful in coping with and adapting to these weather effects.

Khuda Bakhsh, an agricultural scientist researching Pakistani agriculture on climate change at the Comcast Institute of Information Technology in Vehari District, Punjab Province, says more than 80% of Pakistan's crops are grown by small farmers. However, their inability to cope with the adverse effects of climate change on agriculture could weaken the country's agriculture and reduce agricultural land, leading to food shortages, rural poverty and farmers' agriculture in the country. Saying goodbye to could lead to higher unemployment.

He further warned that this could lead to the failure of government plans for sustainable agriculture, food security, poverty and hunger eradication. He suggested that the financial and technical assistance required to increase the capacity of poor and small farmers to cope with the various devastating effects of climate change on agriculture in Pakistan, such as declining agricultural production and erratic and deteriorating rainfall conditions. The provision of education is essential.

However, Moeez Asadullah, a young farmer, says that rich and educated farmers in and around Bakrani village near Larkana are paving the way for large-scale drip irrigation and land to cope with the lack of erratic rainfall in their area. They are using laser technology, which reduces the use of irrigation by 50%. But for small, uneducated and vulnerable farmers like us, access to this expensive technology is just a dream. "It costs about Rs 70,000 to install a two-and-a-half acre drip irrigation system, which is unbearable for poor and small farmers like us," he added.

Meanwhile, Nawaz Soomro, a 38-year-old farmer in Khairpur Mirs district, 80 km east of Larkana, has started cultivating cotton and rice on a large scale on his 200 acres to cope with the negative effects of declining rainfall due to climate change in his area. Is using advanced laser technology for drip irrigation and agricultural land leveling to achieve better yields and overcome problems such as reduced irrigation.
