On July 31, 2021, large-scale anti-coronavirus protests again swept across the country in France, drawing more than 250,000 people.
Protesters protested against compulsory vaccinations, covid-passports, various restrictive measures and Macron with the government.
In a number of cities, this led to clashes with the police. In Paris, protesters beat up journalists from central channels.
The police used tear gas, water cannons, batons and other special means to disperse the crowd. There were casualties among the protesters as well as among the police.
Right-wing and left-wing opposition leaders Marine Le Pen and Melanchon urged the government to take people's opinions into account when considering the new health care law, which is due to come into force in August.
