All Buzz, No Sting : Broad-handed Carpenter Bee

This is another broad-handed carpenter bee that was spotted again visiting my backyard. So, this time I decided to take its photos with DSLR that could possibly allow me to shoot from distance range. As usual, it's gone a bit longer, but in any moment, it came back again. That's was my chance to take its photo from very close range. Huff, after being done with a few clicks, it flew away which assumed it would come back, but after long wait, it did not show up. It moved quite a lot during midday which made me waited for little longer to have good time for the shot. It is not like common bees such as honeybees, bumblebees, or other kinds of bees that live in colonies, carpenter bees are not included in social insects family. Xylocopa latipes, commonly called the tropical carpenter bee, is a species of carpenter bee whose habitat is often found in Southeast Asia. Just like its close relative, Xylocopa violacea or commonly known as the broad-handed carpenter bee X. latipes also inhabits forests in tropical climates and builds nests by digging holes into wood. The broad-handed carpenter bee is a very large, robust, solitary bee. It is shiny, fully black in color with fuscous metallic blue-green or purple wings in sunlight.
